Buddy Spencer, a Sallisaw citizen who is known for his many contributions to projects in Sallisaw including the soon-to-be constructed Veteran’s Center, was honored with a surprise birthday party last Monday by his friends and acquaintances at Blue Ribbon Chevrolet. Spencer, left, who turned 90, was presented with a proclamation by Sallisaw Mayor Ernie Martens, right, declaring Aug. 30 as “Buddy Spencer Day” in the City of Sallisaw. The City of Sallisaw issued the following statement for the occasion: “It has been said that every community needs a ‘Buddy.’ Sallisaw is fortunate to have Buddy. He is our biggest cheerleader and has been instrumental in many community projects involving education, economic development and the new Veterans facility. Happy birthday!”
