Waukomis was dominant on both sides of the ball against Webbers Falls in its Class B, Division II opening-round playoff game last Friday night at Waukomis High School’s Lovell Field.
Wyatt Smith had five touchdowns and Eli Mitchell had three interceptions helping the Chiefs take the 56-6 victory over the Warriors.
With the win, Waukomis secures its first victory in the playoffs since 1994.
The Chiefs (9-2) will move on to take on Weleetka at 7 p.m. next Friday at Weleetka.
The Warriors ended the season at 6-5.
Smith was a force on offense, rushing for more than 100 yards and collecting four rushing touchdowns in the win. He had a passing touchdown in the contest as well, while Mitchell was a ball hawk Waukomis got on the board first as Smith found Mark Mitchell on 29-yard touchdown, cutting the lead to 8-6.
After that score, Smith and the Chiefs offense were dominant for the rest of the second quarter, scoring 28 unanswered points.
Ethan Brueggemann would use some tricks of his own, faking the sweep and throwing to Mitchell for a 49-yard touchdown pass to put the Chiefs up 16-6.
Smith would take over in the second quarter, collecting three rushing touchdowns, including a 67-yard rushing touchdown at the end of the quarter, to make it 36-6 at the break.
After Smith would run it in for a touchdown to make it 44-6, Mitchell would collect his third interception of the night as he stepped in front of Robinson’s pass and took it home for a 46-yard touchdown, increasing the lead to 50-6.
Mehsyn Phelan would run it in for a 17yard touchdown later in the third quarter, securing the victory for the Chiefs, who won the contest by the 45-point mercy rule.
