The 2024-25 basketball season got underway in fine fashion Dec. 3 for the Webbers Falls High School basketball teams as they swept the visiting Riverside Conference rival Arkoma squads at Webbers Falls Event Center.
The Lady Warriors opened the night with a 32-21 win over the Arkoma Lady Mustangs, then the Warriors rallied past the Arkoma Mustangs for a 49-46 come-from-behind victory.
On Friday night, the Webbers Falls teams faced the host Okay Lady Mustangs and Mustangs, with the Lady Warriors and Warriors coming up short as the Okay girls beat the Lady Warriors 77-23 and the Okay boys downed Warriors 76-41.
In the Webbers Falls girls’ win over Arkoma, the Lady Warriors (1-1 overall, 1-1 in conference play) doubled the Lady Mustangs 12-6 in the first quarter, but the Lady Mustangs cut their deficit to 17-13 at halftime but got no closer.
The Lady Warriors outscored the Lady Mustangs 15-8 in the second half to win going away.
Bridgette Baer led all scorers with a game-high 12 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Cheyanne Herrier with seven points, Abbie Patterson with five points, Kailey Mannon with four points and Audri Spears and Bailey Ward with two points apiece.
In the Webbers Falls boys’ victory over Arkoma, the Warriors (1-1, 1-1) rallied from a 29-27 halftime deficit by outscoring the Mustangs 22-19 in the second half to get the come-frombehind victory.
For the game, Chevy Cole and Luke Pierce each scored 14 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Brutus Robinson with seven points, Wyatt Scheeland and Thadan Yandell with five points each and Gunner Shelby and Elliott Kunkel with two points apiece.
In the Webbers Falls girls’ loss to Okay, the Lady Mustangs fell behind 25-7 after a quarter and never looked back.
In defeat, Ward led Webbers Falls with six points, followed by Madison Smith with five points, Paisley Turley with four points, Herrier and Baer with three points each and Mannon with two points.
In the Webbers Falls boys’ loss to Okay, the Mustangs jumped out to a 21-13 lead after a quarter, which became a 3922 halftime advantage and a 65-29 lead going into the final period.
In defeat, Yandell led Webbers Falls with 12 points, followed by Shelby and Eli Hefflin with seven points each, Pierce with five points, Robinson and Trysten Wilbourn each with three points and Cole and Scheeland with two points.
