Webbers Falls Lady Warriors win Mounds Tournament consolation title; Warriors fall in consolation finals

MOUNDS — The Webbers Falls Lady Warriors won the consolation title game of the Mounds Tournament on Saturday, downing the host Lady Eagles 41-28. The Lady Warriors opened with a 37-28 loss to Summit Christian on Thursday afternoon but bounced back with a 40-17 rout of the Newkirk junior varsity in Friday’s consolation semifinals.

The Warriors lost their consolation finals contest 54-43 to Newark after losing 64-36 to Chelsea in Thursday evening’s openinground game but beating the Carney JV 59-23 in Friday’s consolation semifinals.

In the girls’ consolation finals, the Lady Warriors (9-6) broke a 15-all tie at halftime by outscoring the Lady Eagles 17-9 in the third quarter and 9-4 in the final period.

For the game, Bridgette Baer scored a game-high 15 points and Cheyanne Herrier added 10 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Bailey Ward with six points, Abbie Patterson with five points, Audri Spears with three points and Kailey Mannon with two points.

In the girls’ consolation semifinals, after taking a 7-2 lead after a quarter against the Newark JV, the Lady Warriors put away the game with a 14-0 second period to take a 21-2 halftime lead.

For the game, Madison Smith scored a game-high 13 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by River Harrison with six points, Herrier, Baer and Spears with five points each and Mannon, Patterson and Ward with two points apiece.

In the girls’ openinground game, Summit Christian rallied from a 15-14 halftime deficit by outscoring the Lady Warriors 14-9 in the third quarter and 9-4 in the final period to get the come-from-behind victory.

In defeat, Baer and Ward each scored 10 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Patterson with four points and Mannon and Herrier with two points apiece.

In the boys’ conso-lation finals, Newkirk jumped out to a 21-11 lead after a period, but the Warriors (5-10) used a 13-10 second quarter to cut their deficit to 31-24 at halftime. However, Newkirk outscored Webbers Falls 23-22 in the second half to keep the Warriors at bay.

In defeat, Thadan Yandell scored 18 points and Luke Pierce added 11 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Chevy Cole and Brutus Robinson with six points each and Gunner Shelby with five points.

In the boys’ consolation semifinals, the Warriors jumped out to an 18-4 lead after a period and were never headed.

For the game, Cole scored a game-high 15 points and Shelby added 10 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Yandell with nine points, Elliott Kunkel with eight points, Pierce with seven points, Robinson and Chandler Kramer with three points each and Ryker Gilley and Cordae Shine with two points apiece.

In the boys’ openinground game, Chelsea jumped out to a 25-7 lead after a quarter to put away the game.

In defeat, Pierce scored eight points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Robinson and Eli Hefflin with six points each, Cole with five points, Yandell and Kunkel each with four points and Shelby with three points.
