Former Vian player’s OBU softball team goes 5-0 last week
By David Seeley Sports Editor

SHAWNEE — Former Vian softball player Greenlee Wells and the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison went 5-0 last week.

On April 15, the Bison swept a home doubleheader from Northeastern Oklahoma State University, winning 9-1 in a six-inning, run-rule contest and 5-3.

Then, the Bison swept Wells’ former Vian teammate Kacie Gibbins’ Arkansas Tech University Golden Suns in a three-game series, beating the Golden Suns 4-2 on Thursday and taking both games Friday — winning 8-2 and 4-1.

In the opener against NSU, Wells was 1-for-3 with two runs batted in, while going hitless in three at-bats in the nightcap.

In Thursday’s game against Arkansas Tech, Wells went 1-for-3 with her 14th home run and three runs batted in. In Friday’s opener, she went 4-for-4 with her 13th double and scored twice, while going 2-for-3 with her 14th double, her 15th homer and two runs scored.

Through 47 games, Wells is batting .366 with 14 doubles, a triple, 15 homers, 49 RBIs, 33 runs scored and seven stolen bases.

Wells and the Bison (32-15 overall, 23-6 in Great American Conference play), after play-ing Southern Nazarene University in Bethany on Tuesday, will wrap up the regular season with a three-game home series against Southern Arkansas University beginning with a 6 p.m. Friday game and ending with a noon doubleheader.
