Arkansas Razorbacks player selected by L.A. Lakers

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Adou Thiero was selected in the second round as the 36th overall pick of the 2025 National Basketball Association Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday to become the 47th Razorback drafted in the NBA and the 62nd player under John Calipari to be drafted in Cal’s 32 years as a collegiate head coach.

This past season, Thiero had a career year with the Razorbacks, scoring 407 of his 634 career points, making 138 of his 213 career field goals, and making 120 of his 187 career free throws, while also dishing out 51 of his 87 career assists and securing 44 of his career 70 steals.

Thiero played his first two seasons at Kentucky prior to transferring to Arkansas for the 202425 campaign.

He played in 27 games with 26 starts, missed a total of nine games after suffering a hyper extension to his left knee in the second half against Missouri on Feb. 22 and missed eight of the final nine games, returning to play 5:22 in the Sweet 16 game against Texas Tech, which beat the Hogs 85-83 in overtime to end Arkansas’ season.

D espite missing those games, Thiero led the team in scoring (15.1 points per game and 407 points), led the team in rebounding (5.8 rpg), led the team in steals (1.69), led the team in field-goal percentage (.545), led the team in free throws made (120) and attempts (175), ranked second on the team in total steals (44), ranked third on the team in total rebounds (157) and ranked fourth on the team in both total blocks (20) and assists (51).

He led the team in scoring a team-best 11 times, led the team in rebounding a team-best 12 times and led the team in steals a secondbest nine times.

In the rankings, Thiero was second in the Southeastern Conference (46th NCAA) in field-goal percentage at .545, ninth in the SEC in free-throw attempts (despite missing nine games) at 175, 14th in the SEC in steals at 1.63 average, 15th in the SEC in free throws made (despite missing nine games) at 120 and 16th in the SEC in scoring at 15.1 points per game. He is the eighth Razorback (ninth time in program history) to compile 400plus points, 150-plus rebounds, 50-plus assists, 40-plus steals and 20plus blocks in a season and is the only one to do so in less than 34 games (played 27).
