The Union of Salvation and Obedience
By Vian Baptist Church

1Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. Salvation is of the LORD. This is a simple true statement because only the LORD can provide salvation or in other terms Eternal Life. Salvation speaks to a place called heaven in scripture. It is a perfect place without sin, corruption and vice. Anyone with two eyes and a brain can see the world around us is falling apart. For all of its great scientific discoveries, it is failing in the simplest of the commands of God.

Salvation is something we must seek even though it is offered to all freely. Our part of Salvation is to find the Biblical Jesus and ask for forgiveness. What did I just say? The Biblical Jesus? Yes, I did for there are many false Christ’s, false prophets, false religions in the world today. The Bible teaches it. 1John 4:1 “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”

2Corinthians 11:13-15 “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”

We have “churches” today that welcomes the perversions of human nature condemned by the Scriptures. They are following false doctrine based on false principles taught by false ministers. The false minister takes a small portion of Scripture and disregards other sections of it.

Let me be frank, God loves everyone (just like they teach) but He hates sin. Let me quote a little old testament for you. Proverbs 6:16-19 “These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.”

If I had space, I’d break this all down for you, let me just point out one…an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations. This is where false doctrine comes from. A religion cannot pick and choose what doctrines it wants to follow or what doctrines to accept. You can’t pick over the Bible to suit your heart’s belief. Your faith cannot be base on feelings! Our emotions are the most unstable part of our entire personality. We can actually love someone and then do them bodily harm when our feelings are hurt. Do not look for Salvation using your feelings. It comes by honest faith in Scriptures. Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Now let’s see how to joint faith and obedience, a necessary union. Romans 6:16 “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” This scripture tells us that there are two paths for our lives to follow. One path leads to righteousness. The other is disobedience to death, the grave, and the torments of hell. Our first part of obedience is as follows. Hebrews 5:8-9 “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;” Obedience for us is essential. 1Corinthians 6:1920 “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Also note this: 1Peter 2:9 “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:” The following poem is the middle verse from “The World’s Bible” poem by Paul E, Chapman.

We are the only Bible, The careless world will read; We are the sinner’s Gospel, We are the scoffer’s creed; We are the Lord’s last message, Given in deed and word; What if the type is crooked? What if the print is blurred?

This is the reason that Christian Obedience is absolutely necessary. Our disobedience can lead othres astray and they will spend eternity in torment by believing in a false religion or a false Christ. We are Ambassadors to heaven. How are we doing? Are we leading to Church? Are we leading to Christ those around us? If you are truly saved, then we have an obligation to be with a Bible believing group of men and women.

Hebrews 10:25 “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

“as the manner of some is” Are you of that manner. Do you forsake going to church? What are you teaching those around you by staying home? Just asking!
