Rustic Rumble set for Saturday
By AMIE CATO-REMER Editor

The first annual Rustic Rumble Muscle Car Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Rustic Cantina in Vian.

Jason Carter, owner of the Rustic Cantina, said everyone is invited to come out and join in on a high-octane day of celebrating America’s most iconic muscle cars.

“Spectators are welcome, so bring the entire family,” Carter said. Registration will open at 9 a.m. and is free for all participants. Each entry also includes a free event T-shirt.

There will be three show categories with $750 going to the winner of each class: • 1960s-1970s Original and/ or restored muscle cars • 1960s-1970s Resto-mod muscle cars • Modern Muscle (late model muscle cars) Vehicles will be judged based on originality, exterior condition, interior condition, engine bay and overall presentation. Carter said his love of muscle cars came from his father, Dan Carter, 73, of Gore, but it wasn’t instantaneous.

“When I was 11-years-old my dad hauled a 1964 El Camino home, looking nothing like it does today,” Carter remembered. “When he told me it was going to be my car, I told him no way, there is nothing cool about this car.”

But as Carter grew, his mind changed quickly.

“A lot of my best childhood memories were turning a wrench with him on a muscle car, especially that El Camino, which I still own,” Carter said.

“Me and dad completely built it. My parents owned the Gore Napa Parts store for more than 30 years, and when they needed me to deliver paint to Arba Jett’s body shop over in Vian, I would get so excited,” he said. “Or should I say, see how quickly I could drive over there.”

“I drove that car to all my proms and my son drove it to his first prom last year,” Carter said. “I even hauled all the kids in it during the homecoming parade in 2016. I wouldn’t trade this car for anything.”

Carter said the Rustic Cantina will be selling breakfast for the first time the morning of the event.

“We plan on having breakfast burritos for purchase that morning and will transition our menu over to lunch that afternoon,” he said.

“I hope to make this an event we do every year,” Carter concluded. “Vian has given me so much, and I really enjoy doing things that bring joy and excitement back to it.”

The Rustic Cantina is located at 118 Thornton Street in downtown Vian and can be reached at 918-235-6344.
