The Secret Place of the Most High
By Shirley R. Watts

The Most High

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust” (Ps 91:1-2).

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation” (91:14-16).

To dwell (abide) in the “secret place of the Most High” should be the desire of every born again child of God.

It should be our desire to pray, fellowship, obey and worship Him, The Most High! The result is that we will conform to “the image of His Son” (Rom. 8:29). The Christian life is about true worship to the Holy God, The Most High. Amen.

The “secret place of the Most High” is a “hidden” place. This is the place that only God sees. He knows the heart. The “secret place” is a safe place. “Most High” (Elyon; v.v. 1,9) means that He is greater than all earthly kings and false gods.

Christians

Christians know personally the Most High. It is made possible through Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for sin on the Cross (John 3:16).

Who are the “true” Christians? It is those who have been convicted of sin by power of the Holy Spirit. They humbly confessed and repented of sin, asked forgiveness and placed their faith in Jesus Christ. This is conversion! The Holy Spirit indwells the Christian. They are then “justified” (declared righteous) by the Most High. Conviction, church membership or works does not bring salvation (Eph 2:8-9; John 14:6).

It is the beginning of a new life…forgiven! The Holy Spirit will lead, guide and direct the life. These are the ones who can dwell in the “secret place of the Most High.” It is when the Christian commits to His will and the life of obedience. It comes through prayer, study, fellowship, obedience and true worship. You must study to know His will. The Christian can then “dwell in the secret place of the Most High.” They can then “abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Ps. 91:1). They are safe only as they do His will! They have the victory (Col. 2:15).

Promises

There will be trials, but they only make us stronger and bring us closer to “the secret place of the Most High” You move closer through prayer, study, fellowship, obedience and worship. We must claim His promises and obey Him!

What are His promises when we “dwell in the secret place of the Most High?” We are safe from the evil (Ps. 91:3-13. He is our refuge…shelter from danger. He is our fortress… strength. We have His Word and can trust Him to bring all to pass.

There are many promises. We are challenged to claim them if we desire to “dwell in the secret place of the Most High.” We have peace, found in the “secret place” We need not be fearful for He is with us. We have a satisfied life (91:14-16). A long life is ours. The fulfilled life is experienced!

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.” (Ps 91:14-16).

May all true Christians “dwell in the secret place of the Most High.” May we all pray, study, fellowship, obey and worship our God in the “secret place.”

Are you truly born again? Praying? Claiming His promises? Are you dwelling in the “secret place?”

Soon we will stand with the Most High and His Son and” “Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked” (Ps 91:8; Rev. 19:17-21:27).

Praise God!!!
