Webbers Falls basketball teams suffer losses in Mounds Tournament
By David Seeley Sports Editor

MOUNDS — It was a rough two-day stay for the Webbers Falls High School basketball teams as they each suffered two losses in the Mounds Invitational Tournament.

The Warriors lost 6828 to Hominy in last Wednesday’s openinground game, then were eliminated from the tournament as they lost 70-23 to Chelsea last Thursday afternoon in the consolation semifinals.

The Lady Warriors suffered a 56-18 opening-round loss to Tulsa Regent Prep last Wednesday before being eliminated by Summit Christian in a 47-16 in Thursday afternoon’s consolation semifinals.

Due to the winter storm that hit last weekend, the decision was made to cancel the seventh-place games, thus after Thursday’s defeats the tournament stays for the Webbers Falls teams came to an end.

In the boys’ loss to Hominy, the Bucks, who trailed 11-10 after a quarter, outscored the Warriors 52-17 over the final three quarter — including keeping the Warriors (6-12) scoreless in the final period.

In defeat, Thadan Yandell scored 13 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Cason Newcomer with eight points, Chevy Cole and Eli Hefflin with three points each and Gunner Shelby with a free throw.

In the boys’ loss to Chelsea, the Warriors fell behind 18-10 after a quarter, but it was a 28-3 second quarter by the Dragons put Chelsea ahead 46-13 at halftime.

In defeat, Cole led Webbers Falls with nine points, followed by Yandell with six points, Cordae Shine with four points and Shelby and Hefflin with two points apiece.

In the girls’ loss to Tulsa Regent Prep, the Lady Rams jumped out to a 15-8 lead after a quarter, but they put away the game in the second period as they outscored the Lady Warriors 17-1 to take a 32-9 halftime lead, which became a 49-15 advantage heading into the final period.

In defeat, Allie Patterson scored six points to lead the Lady Warriors (6-11), followed by Katie Frazier with five points, Hannah Kay Mason with three points and Abbie Patterson and Paizley Turley with two points apiece.

In the girls’ loss to Summit Christian, the Lady Eagles flew out to a 20-2 lead after a quarter and just kept on flying.

In defeat, Frazier led Webbers Falls with six points, followed by Allie Patterson with three points and Turley, Peyton Shanks and Abbie Patterson with two points apiece.
