Gore Lady Pirates had busy week last week
By David Seeley Sports Editor

The Gore Lady Pirates were two festivals last week.

At the Porum Festival, the Lady Pirates split games on both March 23 and March 24. On Day 1, the Lady Pirates beat Central 13-10 but lost 11-0 in four innings to Tushka, then beat the Oktaha junior varsity 7-1 but lost 13-2 in four innings to Red Oak.

At the Hall of Fame Festival last Thursday at Oklahoma City’s Hall of Fame Stadium, the Lady Pirates lost all three games — falling 13-5 in six innings to Leedey, losing 12-0 in five innings to Mangum and suffering a 6-2 loss to Canute.

In the win over Central in the Porum Festival, the Lady Pirates (3-7) broke a 7-all tie with a two-run fifth inning and a three-run sixth inning to take a 13-7 lead. The Lady Tigers tried to rally, scoring six runs in the sixth inning but seeing their rally coming up short.

For the game, Alevia Reasnor was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored, River Shoemake was 2-for-4 with her first home run of the season and three runs batted in, Kennedy Williams was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI and Kylie “K.J.” McEver was 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored for Gore.

Camdyn Dotson (22) got the win, going the first 4.2 innings with a strikeout. Mylee Bruce went the final 2.1 innings with a strikeout.

In the loss to Tushka in the Porum Festival, Tushka pitcher Harlee Willis tossed a twohitter. All the run support she needed was supplied with Tushka’s four-run first inning. A three-run third inning and a four-run fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

Dotson and Emily Daily each singled for the only hits for Gore. Dotson took the loss.

In the victory over the Oktaha JV in the Porum Festival, the Lady Pirates (3-4) split their final two games on the second and final day of the two-day event.

In the win over the Oktaha junior varsity, the Lady Pirates trailed 1-0 after an inning, but rallied with a two-run fifth inning and a fiverun seventh inning to get the come-from-behind victory.

For the game, Williams was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored, Sophie O’Connor was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Maddison Douglass was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Dotson was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for Gore. Mylee Bruce (1-5) got her first win of the season.

In the loss to Red Oak in the Porum Festival, the Lady Eagles put away the game early with a 12-run first inning. After the Lady Pirates scored their two runs in their half of the inning, the Lady Eagles scored once in the second inning to put the game into runrule status.

In defeat, Daily and Reasnor each singled with a run scored, while O’Connor, McEver and Jemma Peevy each singled for Gore. Bruce took the loss.

In the loss to Leedey at the Hall of Fame Festival, after the Lady Pirates took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, the Lady Bison scored five runs in both the first and fourth innings for a 10-3 lead. After the Lady Pirates cut the deficit to 10-5 in the fifth inning, the Lady Bison put the game into run-rule status with a run in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth inning.

In defeat, Douglass was 2-for-3 with her first home run of the season and three RBIs, McEver was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI and both Reasnor and Daily each doubled and scored once for Gore. Bruce suffered the loss.

In the loss to Mangum in the Hall of Fame Festival, Mangum pitcher Jolie Stuchell pitched a one-hitter, with that hit being a single by McEver.

Stuchell got all the run support she needed with a three-run first inning. A tworun fifth inning put the game into run-rule status.

Bruce took the loss. In the loss to Canute in the Hall of Fame Festival, the Lady Trojans scored twice in the first inning and three runs in the second inning for a 5-0 lead. A run in the fourth inning made it 6-0. The Lady Pirates scored twice in the sixth inning but got no closer.

In defeat, Wiliams was 2-for-2, McEver was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Douglass doubled with an RBI for Gore. Bruce suffered the loss.
