Gore Pirates go 4-1 last week on the diamond

The Gore Pirates went 4-1 last week in their five baseball games played.

The Pirates opened the week by routing both Webbers Falls 14-0 in three innings on March 23 at Eual Carter Sports Complex and Arkoma 10-0 in four innings at home on March 24.

At the Amber-Pocasset Festival, which took place last Thursday through Saturday, the Pirates went 2-1 — beating Verden 8-3 last Friday and defeating Hydro-Early 5-2 after losing 9-1 to the host Amber-Pocasset Panthers.

In the win over Webbers Falls, the Pirates (9-3) got a three-inning, two-hitter from pitcher Gage Dame (2-0) as he struck out five batters.

The Pirates put away the game early with a six-run first inning, A seven-run second inning and a run in the third inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Dame went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in and a run scored, Tate Brooksher doubled with two RBIs and a run scored, Wyatt Willard-Smith doubled with three RBIs and two runs scored and Cruz Ward hit his first home run of the season with two RBIs for Gore.

In the victory over Arkoma, Brooksher (41) pitched a four-inning, one-hitter with eight strikeouts.

The Pirates scored three runs in the first inning, four runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Eli Munson was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Dame was 2-for-2 with a run batted in and a run scored, Kyler McGee doubled with an RBI and a run scored and Willard-Smith doubled with two RBIs and a run scored for Gore.

In the festival loss to Amber-Pocasset. the Panthers had a 4-0 lead by the end of the fourth inning. After the Pirates scored their lone run, the Panthers put the game into run-rule status with a four-run fifth inning.

In defeat, Brooksher singled and scored Gore’s lone run, while Kason Short singled for Gore.

McKennon McElhaney (0-2) took the loss, lasting just 1.1 innings. Jesse Reeves went the next 2.2 innings with a strikeout, then Dane Gates got the last two outs.

In the festival win over Verden, the Pirates broke a 1-all tie with a single run in the third inning, two runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth inning for an 8-1 lead.

For the game, Short was 2-for-3, Cruz Ward doubled and Brooksher tripled with three RBIs and two runs scored for Gore.

James Brasuell (3-0) got the win, getting four strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Brooksher went the last 1.1 innings.

In the festival victory over Hydro-Eakly, the Pirates broke a 2-all tie with a three-run third inning.

For the game, Brooksher was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, Brasuell was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, Ward was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored for Gore.

Brooksher got the complete-game victory as he went all seven innings with four strikeouts.
