Vian Wolverines enjoy 3-1 week last week on the diamond
By David Seeley Sports Editor

The Vian Wolverines baseball team went 3-1 last week on the diamond.

The Wolverines won their first three games of the week — a 13-3 five-inning, run-rule road win over Central on March 23, then got a 15-8 home win over Warner on March 24.

Last Thursday, the Wolverines got a 13-5 five-inning, run-rule home victory over Fort Gibson before losing their only game of last week — falling 14-8 to Sequoyah-Tahlequah at home on Friday.

In the win over Central, the Wolverines (106) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, which became an 8-2 lead by the second inning. A run in the third inning and a pair of two-run innings in the fourth and fifth innings put the game into runrule status.

For the contest, Drake Collins was 3-for-4 with a double, his first home run of the season and scored three runs, Draighton Fletcher was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and a run batted in, Manny Terrill was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, Adoff Stahl doubled and scored once and Michael Polecat doubled and scored four runs.

Polecat (4-1) got the complete five-inning game victory, striking out five batters.

In the victory over Warner, the Wolverines rallied from a 7-6 deficit with a three-run third inning to take the lead for good at 9-7. After the Eagles cut their deficit to 9-8 in the fourth inning, the Wolverines put away the game with a pair of three-run innings in the fifth and sixth innings.

For the game, Stahl was 4-for-5 with a triple, three runs scored and three runs batted in, Collins was 3-for-4 with a double and five RBIs, Fletcher was 2-for-5 with a triple and two runs scored, Terrill was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Clayton Thomas was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, Colten Smith was 2-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run, his first homer of the season, and scored twice and Zayden Cheater doubled with an RBI for Vian.

Zayden Cheater (3-1) got the win in relief, going three innings with three strikeouts. Thomas got the start and lasted just 1.1 innings with a strikeout. Smith got the save as he went the final 2.2 innings with a strikeout.

In the win over Fort Gibson, the Wolverines rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a three-run second inning and a seven-run third inning for a 10-2 lead after three innings. A three-run fifth inning put the game into runrule status.

Collins was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Stahl was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for Vian.

Chris Cheater (1-0) got his first win of the season, going all five innings with three strikeouts.

In the loss to Sequoyah- Tahlequah, after the Wolverines had a 6-3 lead after two innings, the Indians responded with a threerun third inning, a two-run fourth inning and a six-run sixth inning to take a 14-6 lead. The Wolverines scored twice in their half of the sixth inning to keep the game going but got no closer.

In defeat, Fletcher was 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored, Stahl was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored, Polecat was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored and Collins was 2-for-4 with a run scored for Vian.
