Central softball team beats Gans, Roland, but falls to Vian, loses four games in Howe Festival

The Central Lady Tigers slow-pitch softball team went 2-5 last week.

The wins came in an 11-3 five-inning win over Gans at home on March 30, followed by a 19-10 six-inning win over Roland as part of a three-way on March 31 at Vian’s Armstrong Park.

The host Lady Wolverines opened the March 31 three-way with a 9-8 10-inning win over the Lady Tigers, who then lost all four games to end the week — losing 11-0 in four innings last Thursday to Cameron, then losing all three games at the Howe Festival on Good Friday as Central lost 8-3 to Cameron, 12-0 in three innings to Red Oak and 11-1 in four innings to Wilburton.

In the win over Gans, the Lady Tigers (4-11) jumped out to a 6-0 lead after an inning, then single runs in the fourth and fifth innings put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Charlie Petree was 4-for-4 with a triple, a run batted in and three runs scored, Alyvia Warner was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, Brenleigh Allen was 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBIs and a run scored, Keeley Poindexter was 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI, Sadie Huff was 2-for-2 with a run scored, Rylie Wilson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored and Lilly Kutil doubled with three RBIs and a run scored for Central. Gretchen Reed (4-11) got the win.

In the victory over Roland, the Lady Tigers broke a 10-all tie with a nine-run sixth inning which put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Jhaselyn Gonzalez was 4-for-5 with triple, three RBIs and three runs scored, Warner was 3-for-5 with her first homer of the season, five RBIs and two runs scored, Petree was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Allen was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Wilson was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, Poindexter was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs, Huff was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Reed was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Central. Reed got the win.

In the loss to Vian, Vian’s Rayleigh Terrill hit a walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning inning to win the game after the Lady Tigers had taken a 8-7 lead on Huff’s twoout RBI single in the top of the frame.

In defeat, Wilson was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, Alexxus Bolin was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Warner was 2-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, Allen was 2-for-5 with a run scored, Kutil was 2-for-4, Poindexter was 2-for-5, Huff was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI and Petree hit her second homer of the season with three RBIs. Reed suffered the loss.

In the first loss to Cameron, Cameron pitcher Jayci Anderson tossed a three-hitter, with those hits being singles by Petree, Allen and Reed.

After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Yellowjackets scored five runs in the second inning, four runs in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

Reed took the loss. In the second loss to Cameron, the Lady ’Jackets stung the Lady Tigers with a five-run first inning. A two-run fourth innings for the Lady Tigers cut their deficit to 8-3 after four innings but got no closer.

In defeat, Petree was 2-for-3, while Kutil doubled with an RBI and a run scored for Central. Reed suffered the loss.

In the loss to Red Oak, Red Oak pitcher Maggie Wilson tossed a one-hitter, with Avery Sainer’s single being the hit that broke up Wilson’s no-hitter.

The Lady Eagles scored five runs in the first inning and seven runs in the second inning to put the game into run-rule status.

Reed took the loss. In the loss to Wilburton, after the Lady Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Lady Diggers scored twice in the first inning to take the lead for good at 2-1. A seven-run third inning and a tworun fourth inning put the game into a run-rule status.

In defeat, Reed was 2-for-2, Allen, Poindexter, Huff and Sainer each singled for Central. Reed suffered the loss.
