Larry W. Patterson
Vian - Graveside services for Larry W. Patterson, 69, of Vian were held at 11 a.m. on Sat., July 18, 2020, at Roselawn Cemetery in Vian under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home.
Mr. Patterson was born on May 24, 1951 in Tulsa to Chum and Dorothy Patterson and passed this life on Sat., July 11, 2020 in Fort Smith, Ark. He married Regenia Foreman Patterson on Jan. 23, 2013 in Vian. He was a cook, kitchen supervisor and night dorm manager at Harbor House in Fort Smith, Ark.
Larry said he and his family relocated to Vian from Tulsa and stopped at every pond, creek and river they saw along the way the day they moved. After his father passed away and his mother went into the nursing home, Larry was on his own from age 13. Being looked after by older women in the neighborhood, he said he fished and killed rabbits and squirrel for meat, and hauled hay and worked odd jobs for extra items while others offered him credit.
He finished school at Vian and worked many different jobs, including school bus driver, poultry plant worker, Whirpool, and convenience store manager. After retirement he worked on the Vian City Council and was president of the Roselawn Cemetery until his health declined.
He was a Church Deacon and maintenance man, taking care of the church lawn weekly at providing food for the kid’s summer food program at First Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife, Regenia of the home; sons, Brandon Shade of Fort Smith, Ark., Lorenzo Shade of Sallisaw, Lawrence Ray Patterson of Little Rock, Ark., Victor Patterson of Vian and Tyler Shade; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Linda Faye Johnson Youngblood; and one brother.
Pallbearers were his sons, and flower bearers were his granddaughters.
