REMINGTON PARK HORSE RACING

OKLAHOMA CITY – Burning Follies has never run in a stakes race in his career, but on Sunday night at Remington Park he was able to beat a horse that had won the Golden State Million in California and had earned more than $1 million – Apollitical Gold. Burning Follies, a 4-year-old horse by Dash to Follies, out of the Walk Thru Fire mare Burn the Kash, won an allowance/optional claiming $75,000 race over a few stakes winners. Meanwhile, the winner has never been above the allowance conditional level in racing. He had just worked through his allowance conditions of non-winners- of-three lifetime races in his last attempt, a win at Remington Park. This victory gave him two in a row.

On Sunday, Burning Follies, a horse that came into the race having earned only $37,705 lifetime, finished threequarters of a length ahead of millionaire Apollitical Gold (5-1 odds), who was the third-place finisher behind World Champion Whistle Stop Café in the 2020 All American Futurity. Flying Afar (12-1) checked in third another neck back. Jockey Rolando Raudales booted Burning Follies home for the win, breaking from the gate the fastest and then hanging on the last 100 yards of the 350-yard race.

There were other stakes winners in the field as well. Burning Follies also beat Im a Fancee Chalk, the 2-1 post-time favorite and winner of the $50,000 Jack Brooks Stakes at Remington Park last year. Im a Fancee Chalk ran fourth, another neck back. Freighttrain Stew, Glamazon and Rayshas Kidd Trax also were horses with black-type on their resumes, but couldn’t get a sniff of Burning Follies.

The winner is trained by Jorge Gonzalez and owned by Double A Ranch of Miami, Fla. Burning Follies was sent off at 5-1 odds and paid $13.20 to win, $5.80 to place and $3.60 to show. He earned $13,638 for the victory and improved his record to 10 starts, four wins, one second and three thirds for earnings of $51,343.

Running time for the 350 yards was :17.742 for a speed index of 87 over a fast track. Burning Follies was bred in Texas by his owners.

Remington Park racing continues Thursday through Sunday, May 11-14. Important trials for the Heritage Place Futurity take place on Thursday and Friday with trials for the Heritage Place Derby on Saturday and trials for the Heritage Place Oaks on Sunday. Racing begins at 6pm nightly, with Sunday action underway at 4pm. All times are Central.
