A man with addresses in both Vian and Sallisaw has been charged with failure to register as sex offender after he was found to be living at a Sequoyah County residence for more than three days without registering.

Zane T. Allison, 27, was formally charged on May 2 and received a $10,000 bond. He is now scheduled for a May 17 arraignment before Associate District Judge Kyle Waters.

Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s Investigator Dwayne Frizzell reported on April 25 he was notified by the county sex offender registrar that Allison was in custody at the Sequoyah County Detention Center and was supposed to register within our county but had not done so.

The sex offender registar said on March 27 she spoke with Allison on the phone and he told her he was at a rehab facility but was planning on leaving. He asked the registar if he could stay where he had previously and she said he could, but he’d have to let her know when he left the rehab facility because he only had three days to register, as required by law.

The registar contacted the rehab facility on April 12 and was told Allison had left the facility on March 29, according to the probable cause affidavit. During that time, Allison never reportedly went to the Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s Department to register.

Allison was arrested on April 24 on a warrant and was taken to the Sequoyah County Detention Center. He was then placed under arrest for failing to register as a sex offender in Sequoyah County.

Allison stated he was afraid to come in and register because of the outstanding warrant he had, according to the affidavit, and wanted to wait until he had it taken care of before registering.

Court records show Allison was convicted of sexual battery in Sequoyah County in December 2017.

District Attorney Jack Thorp said if found guilty, Allison could face imprisonment for not more than five years and/or a fine not to exceed $5,000, or both fine and imprisonment.
