Muldrow – Funeral services for Avis W. Jackson, 96, of Muldrow, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at First Assembly of God Church in Muldrow. Burial followed at Blackjack Cemetery at Muldrow, under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc. of Muldrow.
Mr. Jackson was born on December 6, 1926, in the Brent community to Ben Tony Jackson and Minnie (Rogers) Jackson. He died on Thurs., August 3, 2023, in Fort Smith, Ark.
He was married to Opal Fern Jackson on Feb. 4, 1946, in Fort Smith. She preceded him in death on Feb. 2, 2012.
Mr. Jackson was a United States Army Veteran, farmer, rancher and carpenter.
Survivors are a daughter, Donna Newberry and Jerry of Prim, Ark.; four sons, Jerry Jackson and Wanda of Fort Smith, Jimmy Jackson of Muldrow, Larry Jackson and Tammy of Fort Smith, and Gary Jackson and April of Maple; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and two grandsons, Coby Watson and Tyrel Jackson.
Pallbearers were Jerry Jackson, Jimmy Jackson, Larry Jackson, Gary Jackson, Jeff Jackson, Jerry Newberry, Braden Royse and Chance Jackson.
Honorary pallbearers were Norman Cartwright, Harrell Lee, Tony Yates and the men of Eastside Holiness Church.
