Celebrate Labor Day weekend at Tenkiller or Greenleaf State Parks

Labor Day Weekend is right around the corner, which means it’s the perfect time to head out to the nearest state park and enjoy your three-day weekend. Across the state, parks are preparing a variety of activities for individuals and families to enjoy this holiday weekend.

The Oklahoma Department of Tourism & Recreation is sharing a roundup of these events for Oklahomans to participate in.

“Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end to summer, but we hope Oklahomans will take advantage of the long weekend to enjoy time at their favorite state park,” said Shelley Zumwalt, Executive Director of OTRD. “Our parks are the perfect place to relax, rejuvenate and soak up the last days of summer.”

Festivities in Eastern Oklahoma parks include: Tenkiller State Park

Friday, Sept. 1 10 a.m. – Hummingbird Feeders: Make a feeder to take home for your feathered friends.

1 p.m. – Edible Bird Nests Learn about bird nest styles then design your own to eat.

3 p.m. – Wet ‘N Wild Fun Hour: Slip N Slides, water guns and sponge wars.

Saturday, Sept. 2 10 a.m. – Beady Critters: Create a critter with pony beads.

1 p.m. – Slither and Hiss: Come meet Houdini and watch our snakes eat.

3 p.m. – Nature Print Tees: Design a t-shirt for $8.

5 p.m. – Ice Cream in a Bag: Join us for some DIY ice cream fun!

8 p.m. – Night hike: Register at the Nature Center by 7 p.m. and then join us for a hike after hours.

Sunday, Sept. 3 10 a.m. – Naturalist Scavenger Hunt: Stop by the Nature Center for a copy of the hunt. Turn it back in when it’s complete and earn a prize!

1 p.m. – Rock Painting: Come in and paint a rock with us.

3 p.m. – Toad Meet and Greet: Learn about our native amphibians and meet our three toads.

Monday, Sept. 4 11 a.m. – Window Suncatchers: Come make a suncatcher to take home.

1 p.m. – Seed Bombs: Learn about native plants and make a seed bomb to take home.

3 p.m. – Wet N Wild Fun Hour: Slip N Slides, water guns and sponge wars.

Greenleaf State Park Friday, Sept. 1 11 a.m. – Nature Journal: Join us in making your very own nature journal to write down all of your observations in the park all weekend.

2 p.m. – Froggy Friday: Join us in learning about the Tadpole to Frog life cycle. We will be making a craft to go along with learning.

4 p.m. – Historical Golf Cart Tours: Meet at the Gift Shop Office. Kids $5 and Adults $7 6 p.m. – Family Fun Friday: Join us in playing outdoor games. We will have cornhole, Jenga, sidewalk chalk and more.

Saturday, Sept. 2 11 a.m. – Greenleaf Rocks: Join us in painting rocks for our new rock garden.

2 p.m. – Sensory Sand Box: We will be making a sensory sandbox. Our theme will be the swim beach.

4 p.m. – Historical Golf Cart Tours: Meet at the Gift Shop Office. Kids $5 and Adults $7 Sunday, Sept. 3 10 a.m. – Clever Coyote: We will be reading a Native American tale as you enjoy coloring your own coyote.

12 p.m. – Awesome Possum: We will be learning some interesting facts about our furry friend, the possum, as you enjoy making your very own possum.

4 p.m. – Historical Golf Cart Tours *You must be paid by 3:45 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 4, 2023 10 a.m. – Pine Cone Bird Feeders: Let’s make some healthy snacks for our furry little friends in the park.

4 p.m. – Historical Golf Cart Tours: Meet at the Gift Shop Office. Kids $5 and Adults $7.
