BARTLESVILLE — The Webbers Falls Warriors did not seem to mind the nearly 3.5hour bus trip to face the Wesleyan Christian Mustangs on Friday night as they prevailed 56-27.

Webbers Falls senior quarterback Maddux Shelby had a hat trick of touchdowns in the opening period himself — with one of them set up by a Warriors’ takeaway. Dakota Moore scored the twopoint conversion after the second Shelby TD to put the Warriors (2-0) ahead 20-0 after the first quarter.

In the second period, Aiden Turley scored on a touchdown run, but the conversion was no good to up the Warriors’ advantage to 26-0 with 9:23 remaining before halftime.

With 68 seconds left in the first half, Moore found the end zone. After Turley’s two-point conversion run, Webbers Falls enjoyed a 34-0 halftime lead.

Dylan Young got in on the TD parade as he rushed into the end zone. After Moore ran in the two-point conversion, the Warriors enjoyed a 42-0 lead, needing one more score to put the game into mercy- rule status. However, to the Mustangs’ credit, they did not let that happen.

In a span of about 5:30, Wesleyan Christian scored two touchdowns and kicked the extra point after the first score to cut their deficit to 42-13.

The Warriors only needed 66 seconds to respond to the second Mustangs’ TD as Moore scored his second touchdown of the game to give Webbers Falls a 48-13 lead.

Just 61 seconds later, the Mustangs scored again and kicked the PAT to cut the Warriors’ advantage two 48-20 after three periods.

Thanks to Webbers Falls defender Gunner Shelby’s interception, the Warriors cashed in the takeaway with Maddux Shelby’s fourth TD of the game. Turley, who also later in the final quarter recorded an interception, ran in his second two-point conversion to up the Warriors’ lead to 56-20 with 6:26 left in the game.
