Webbers Falls Lady Warriors see softball season end with district losses to Weleetka, Empire after winning regular-season finale over Gans

The Webbers Falls Lady Warriors saw their 2023 fast-pitch softball season come to a close Thursday with two losses in the Class A District Tournament at Weleetka, losing 16-0 to Empire after losing to the host Lady Outlaws (no score was available at press time).

The regular season ended on a high note as the Lady Warriors downed the Gans Lady Grizzlies 13-3 on Sept. 18 at home.

The Lady Warriors finish the season at 2-14.

In the win over Gans, the Lady Warriors (2-12) snapped an 11-game losing streak with the home victory.

Trailing 1-0 in the first inning, the Lady Warriors scored five runs in their half of the frame to take the lead for good at 5-1. A six-run third inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Taralynn Colston was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Bridgette Baer was 2-for-2 with a double, a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs, Ricki Frazier doubled with three RBIs and two runs scored and Savannah Frazier doubled with two RBIs for Webbers Falls.

Maddie Raskey got the win, striking out two batters in three innings and throwing a two-hitter.

In the district-tournament loss to Empire, the Lady Bulldogs (26-5), who will advance to this week’s Class A Regional Tournament, scored three runs in the first inning, four runs in the second inning and twice in the third inning for a 9-0 lead after three innings. A seven-run fifth inning put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Baer, Raskey and Savannah Frazier each singled for Webbers Falls. Raskey took the loss, despite getting two strikeouts in five innings.

There was no more information about the district-tournament loss to Weleetka by press time.
