Sallisaw – Graveside services for Fern Marilyn “Granny” Burgess, 86, of Sallisaw, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2023, at Steep Hill Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark., under the direction of Agent & Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
Mrs. Burgess was born on Dec. 19, 1936, in Muldrow to Andrew F. Koett and Nannie Marie (Cankersley) Koett. She died on Monday, Oct. 2, 2023, in Fort Smith.
She was a homemaker and of the Nazarene faith. She enjoyed gospel music, growing flowers and going to garage sales. She was a volunteer at the Marble City Food Pantry.
She married Richard James Burgess Sr. on Feb. 23, 1955, in Sallisaw. He preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 2013.
Survivors include three sons, Richard “Rick” Burgess Jr. and DeWayne Burgess Sr. and Gloria all of Sallisaw and Scott Burgess of the home; one daughter, Brenda and Don Smith of Claremore; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and other family members and friends.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and two brothers.
Pallbearers were D.J. Burgess, Josh Burgess, Paul Joplin, Dustin Jaggers, Wesley Rainbolt and Larry Armer.
