Sallisaw – Funeral services for Sterling Leon Petree, 82, of Sallisaw, were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, at First Assembly of God Church in Muldrow. Burial was at Upper Camp Creek Cemetery in Muldrow under the direction of Agent & Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
Mr. Petree was born on Nov. 27, 1940, in Chandler to Sterling Monroe Petree and Bessie Mae (Wittington) Petree. He died on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023, in Vian.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, a carpenter and an ordained minister of the Assembly of God Church. He ministered through music and preaching, and went on many mission trips.
Survivors include one son, William Sterling “Stubby” Petree of Van Buren, Ark.; two sisters, Marie Smith and Joyce Cox, both of Sallisaw; two brothers, Leonard and Cecelia Petree of Henderson, Nev., and Carl and Joyce Petree of St. Joseph, Mo.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Deanna Petree; two sisters, Imogene Booker and Roberta Brisco; and a grandson.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Smith, Terry Smith, C.E. Smith, Dillon Gee, Greg Byrd, Zack Miller and Jake Miller.
