The Line in the Sand
commentary
December 6, 2023
The Line in the Sand
By Pastor Michael Martin,

Matthew 12:30 – “He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.”

William B. Travis made his mark in history when he drew his sword and placed that line in the sand of the Alamo courtyard. The men at the Alamo had a choice to make, step over the line or flee.

Those who crossed the line walked out of anonymity into renown, each one becoming part of an ongoing legend. Never underestimate the power of a defining moment; that moment when history draws a line in the sand.

Jesus drew a line in the sand when He said, “He that is not with Me, is against Me.” He set it in cement when He added, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man comes unto the Father but by Me” John 14:6 As one preacher said, “Christ is not one of many ways to God, nor is he the best of several ways. He is the only way.” Christ is the way unchanging; He is the truth infallible; He is the life everlasting. Jesus is the way that you must be saved if you are to obtain salvation. He is the truth, of that you might be sure. He is the life, by that you might be satisfied. Have you stepped across that line in the sand?

We are told in Scripture that Jesus humbled Himself and became obedient unto death on the cross. Philippians 2:8-11 “And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

The Bible says, Acts 4:12 “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” There is only one name that opens heavens doors and Gods heart – the name of Jesus. There is only one name that breaks the power of sin and sets the captive free – the name of Jesus. There is only one name worthy of all praise, and deserving of your allegiance – the name of Jesus.

Far from being narrow and unfair – this is the most generous and fairest of all possible solutions. God aid not leave us to ourselves to find a way back to Him – for who among us knows where God is that we could first find Him for ourselves and then chart the path for all others to follow? He willingly gave us the Word of God and he placed it where we could find it. He have thousands of preachers with the Word of God in their hand every Sunday in church across this country.

God alone knows where He is. God alone knows where we are. And God alone knows what it takes for us to return to Him. The Bible says that God in 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” The term “not willing that any should perish” sets God apart from any other so called god in the history of man kind. He and only He loves His children. He and only He took their punishment for them. Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Have you stepped across that line in the sand? Have you found the Way? Are you a saved Christian today? I ask that for several false religions believe that you are daily working your way to heaven by your good works. Some claiming to be Christians think there are many ways to heaven and that they can chose their own path. While I was working in Nigeria, I asked my driver if he was a Christian and he said, “Of course. Isn’t my name Alexander instead of Mohamad.” He believe that since he wasn’t Moslem, he was automatically a Christian for that was the division of people in Nigeria. Either you were a Moslem or by default you were a Christian.

I am asking you today to step over the line and believe on Jesus Christ as the only way to heaven. Remember the Scripture tells us that: “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man comes unto the Father but by Me” John 14:6 Could I invite you to do so today? Pray and ask forgiveness for your sin because the clearly tells us that “all have sinned” in Romans 3:23. See yourself as God sees you, a person deep in sin and unable to save himself, then ask Him to forgive you. Do so and you will discover for yourself what so many others have found to be true — Jesus saves.
