Sequoyah County Commissioners are in search of at least two dump trucks for Districts 2 and 3, and have opened the bid process for two or more 2015 or newer tri-axle dump trucks with automatic transmission and a minimum 15-yard bed.
“We need to upgrade,” District 2 Commissioner Beau Burlison told his colleagues during last Tuesday’s weekly meeting. “Our lower-end trucks are in need of an upgrade.”
A stipulation for the bids is that the trucks have 400,000 miles or less.
While 400,000 miles sounds excessive to non-truck drivers, District 1 Commissioner Ray Watts explained that truckers “brag about putting a million miles on their trucks.”
Burlison added that the commissioners are seeking dump trucks with 400,000 “highway” miles rather than miles accumulated on county roads.
The commissioners also approved the appointments of Julia McGhee and Kelly Martin as requisitioning officers as well as Christina Gaytan and Jennifer Wiley as receiving officers for the county health department.
All are appointments for fiscal year 2023-24.
The commissioners meet at 10 a.m. on Mondays at the Sequoyah County Courthouse.
