Webbers Falls squads suffer home losses to McCurtain, road losses against Porum

It was a rough week for the Webbers Falls High School basketball teams as they suffered a pair of sweeps at the hands of the opposition.

On Friday night, the locals suffered a pair of losses to the visiting McCurtain teams as the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Warriors 53-34 and the ’Dogs knocked off the Warriors 71-59.

On Jan. 23, the Webbers Falls teams suffered a pair of road losses against Porum as the Lady Warriors lost 5230 and the Warriors fell 44-42.

In the girls’ loss to McCurtain, the Lady Warriors (9-7) led 21-15 at halftime, but the Lady Bulldogs outscored them 32-13 in the second half.

In defeat, Teralynn Colston scored a gamehigh 18 points and Abby Pense added 10 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Cheyenne Herrier with four points and Bridgette Baer and Lextyn Chappell with a free throw apiece.

In the boys’ loss to McCurtain, the ’Dogs raced out to a 21-7 lead after a period, but the Warriors (4-12) used a 20-16 second period to cut their deficit to 3727 at halftime. A 20-19 third quarter for the Warriors trimmed Mc-Curtain’s advantage to 56-47 after three quarters, but they got no closer.

In defeat, Stryker Chappell led Webbers Falls with a game-high 26 points, followed by Luke Piece with 15 points, Maddux Shelby with nine points, Braydan Robinson with four points, Gunner Shelby with three points and Brutus Robinson with two points.

In the girls’ loss to Porum, the Lady Panthers led 6-4 after a quarter and 18-12 at halftime, but they outscored the Lady Warriors 23-8 in the third period to take a 41-20 lead.

In defeat, Colston led the Lady Warriors with 15 points, followed by Herrier with six points, Baer with five points and Chappell and Bentley Ward with two points apiece.

In the boys’ contest, the Panthers trailed 23-17 at halftime, but outscored the Warriors 24-19 in the second half to get the come-frombehind win.

In defeat, Chappell scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Warriors, followed by Brutus Robinson with nine points, Braydan Robinson with six points, Gunner Shelby with four points, Denver Morgan with three points, Elliott Kunkel with two points and Pierce with a free throw.
