Deputy Roger Dale ‘Papa’ Johnson

Aug. 3, 1964 – Feb. 1, 2024

Funeral services for Deputy Roger Dale “Papa” Johnson, 59, of Roland, will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2024, at Moffett School Gymnasium. Burial will follow at Roland City Cemetery under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

He was born on Aug. 3, 1964, in Fort Smith, Ark., to Blanch Bernice (Clark) Johnson and Harold James Johnson. He died on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024, in Roland.

He was married to Veronica Colon on July 25, 1997, in Hot Springs, Ark.

He proudly served as a Deputy for Sequoyah County Sheriff Department since July 2009 and was Vice Mayor of the City of Roland. He loved being a law enforcement officer and enjoyed working with the children and families of Moffett Public Schools where he was the School Resource Deputy.

Survivors are his wife, Veronica Johnson of the home; two daughters, Tessa George and Tim of Roland and Ashley Taylor and John of Sallisaw; two grandchildren; mother, of Muldrow; sister, Janet Will and John of Evansville, Ind.; two brothers, Jimmy Johnson and Nadine of Muldrow and Steve Johnson and Terri of Fort Smith, Ark.; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; granddaughter, Alorah Hadlee George; one sister, Loretta Dick; and one brother, Tommy Johnson.

Pallbearers will be Scott Dobbs, Les Morton, Shawn Hallum, Greg Peter, Brian Rutherford and Eric Helms.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Johnson, Steve Johnson, Tim George, Jonathan Taylor, Tim Parrish and the past and present deputies of the Sequoyah County Sheriff Department and City of Roland Police Department.
