Webbers Falls teams split home games with Gans, Gore, sweep road games at Watts

The Webbers Falls High School basketball teams split their final home games of the season last week, splitting with Gore on Friday night and Gans on Jan. 30. In between, the Webbers Falls squads picked up a pair of road wins Thursday night at Watts.

In Friday’s Senior Night games with Gore, the Lady Warriors got past the Lady Pirates 40-34, but the Pirates earned the split with a 60-41 victory over the Warriors.

In the home games with Gans on Jan. 30, the Lady Warriors got a 5846 victory in the opener, but the Grizzlies downed the Warriors 61-56.

On Jan. 29, the Webbers Falls teams suffered a pair of road losses to Crowder. The Lady Warriors lost 26-12, then the Warriors fell 52-36.

The Webbers Falls squads picked up a pair of road wins Thursday night against Watts as the Lady Warriors downed the Lady Engineers 49-21, then the Warriors defeated the Engineers 42-35.

In the Senior Night girls’ game, the Lady Warriors (12-8) jumped out to a 15-2 lead after a quarter, but the Lady Pirates tried to rally as they outscored the Lady Warriors 28-18 over the next two periods to cut the Webbers Falls lead to 33-30 going into the fourth quarter. However, Webbers Falls kept Gore at bay with a 7-4 final period.

For the game, Teralynn Colston scored a game-high 22 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Bridgette Baer with nine points, Abby Pense with four points, Aubri Spears and Bailey Ward with two points each and Lextyn Chappell with a free throw.

In the Senior Night boys’ game, the Pirates trailed 26-25 at halftime, but they outscored the Warriors 29-4 in the third quarter to take a 53-30 lead into the final period.

In defeat, Stryker Chappell led all scorers with a game-high 21 points to lead the Warriors (5-15), followed by Braydan Robinson with eight points, Maddux Shelby with six points and Gunner Shelby, Eli Hefflin and Luke Pierce with two points apiece.

In the girls’ loss to Crowder, the Lady Warriors trailed just by a single point at 3-2 at the end of the opening period, but then were outscored 17-6 in the second quarter to fall behind 20-8 at halftime. Crowder’s 6-4 third period upped its advantage to 26-12 as no scoring took place in the fourth quarter.

In defeat, Colston led Webbers Falls with 11 points, while Pense added a free throw.

In the boys’ loss to Crowder, the Warriors led 9-7 after the first quarter, but they were outscored 45-27 over the final three quarters as Crowder left town with a sweep.

In defeat, Chappell scored 12 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Gunner Shelby with nine points, Pierce with six points, Maddux Shelby with five points and Denver Morgan and Braydan Robinson with two points apiece.

In Thursday night’s girls’ win over Watts, Colston led the Lady Warriors with 17 points, followed by Pense with eight points, Baer, Bailey Ward and Spears with six points each, Cheyanne Herrier with four points and Bentley Ward with two points.

In the Thursday night boys’ victory over Watts, the Warriors jumped out to a 9-7 lead after the first quarter, but the Engineers used a 17-10 second period to take a 24-19 lead at halftime. However, the Warriors outscored the Engineers 23-11 in the second half to get the come-frombehind win.

For the game, Chappell led Webbers Falls with 13 points, followed by Pierce with nine points, Gunner Shelby with eight points, Brutus Robinson with five points, Elliott Kunkel with four points and Braydan Robinson with three points.

In the girls’ win over Gans, the Lady Warriors jumped out to a 17-13 lead after the first eight minutes, which became a 27-19 advantage at the half.

The Lady Grizzlies cut their deficit to 43-36 after three quarters, but they were outscored 1510 in the final period as the Lady Warriors held on for the win.

For the game, Colston led Webbers Falls with 24 points, followed by Pense with 15 points, Baer with 10 points, Herrier with seven points and Spears with two points.

In the boys’ loss to Gans, the Grizzlies jumped out to a 15-5 lead after a quarter en route to a 28-10 advantage at halftime.

The Warriors tried to mount a comeback as they outscored the Grizzlies 46-33 in the second half, but the rally fell short.

In defeat, Chappell led all scorers with a game-high 35 points, followed by Maddux Shelby with six points, Brutus Robinson and Braydan Robinson with four points each, Pierce with three points and Gunner Shelby and Morgan with two points apiece.
