Webbers Falls Warriors baseball team goes 1-1 last week, rained out Saturday

Ward strikeouts 17 Keota batters on March 4

The Webbers Falls Warriors baseball team split its two games last week, doubling the Keota Lions 8-4 on March 4, but losing Thursday afternoon’s road game 10-2 to Porum.

Saturday’s road threeway with Talihina at Central was rained out.

In the March 4 road win over Keota, Ben Ward (1-0) got the win, going the first 5.2 innings with 17 strikeouts, then Luke Pierce got the save as he went the final 1.1 innings with three Ks.

The Warriors (2-1) broke a 2-all tie with a two-run fourth inning and a four-run fifth inning for an 8-2 lead after five innings.

For the game, Caleb Dishman was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

In Thursday’s road loss to Porum, the Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after an inning. After Ward scored on an error in the second inning to cut the deficit to 4-1, the Panthers erupted for another four-run outburst in the third inning for an 8-1 lead after three innings. Aiden Turley stole home in the fifth inning to cut the Porum lead to 8-2, but the Panthers put the game into run-rule status with a two-run sixth inning.

In defeat, Stryker Chappell doubled and Turley singled for the only hits on the day for Webbers Falls.

Chappell (1-1) took the loss, going the first three innings with four strikeouts but only allowing three earned runs as five other runs were unearned due to three Webbers Falls errors. Braydan Robinson went the final two-plus innings with a strikeout.

After the Warriors entertained Canadian and Quinton on Monday, they will welcome Gans to town for a 1:30 p.m. Thursday game, then travel to face McCurtain and Howe beginning at 4 p.m. Friday in Mc-Curtain before taking Spring Break Week off.
