In a pivotal special meeting held at 7 p.m. on March 7, the Gore Board of Education convened to address an agenda spanning critical administrative matters and educational initiatives.
One of the primary discussions of the evening centered around the approval of consent agenda items. Deliberations included reviewing the minutes of the previous meeting, financial reports, encumbrances, and change orders, which were all unanimously approved by the board members.
Noteworthy highlights of this discussion involved the approval of updated contracts with Sylogist and OKTLE for student and staff software and support for the upcoming academic year. Also approved was an updated school resource officer contract with the town of Gore.
Further discussions ensued regarding district policy additions and revisions from OSSBA, addressing crucial aspects such as school security surveillance, parentteacher conferences, and fire drill procedures, demonstrating the board’s commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment.
Tera Robbins addressed the board with two significant requests. Firstly, seeking approval for her and student Snowy Rich’s attendance at the National Leadership Conference in Seattle, Wash., representing the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Secondly, advocating for an upgrade of the family and consumer science kitchen lab with modern cabinets and countertops. The board voted to take no action on the requests, according to meeting minutes.
In addition to these decisions, the board also deliberated on various studentrelated matters, including approving a senior class trip to Branson, Mo. for May 9 and 10, and requests for academic banners honoring student achievements for Hallie Kinion.
The principal’s reports provided insights into the academic and administrative progress within the school, with Principal Bliss and Principal Pugh sharing updates from the upper and lower elementary, and high school.
Board president Cody Sloan also inquired about an update on band/music teacher applications. Bliss said the position had been posted and he was actively seeking applicants.
During Superintendent Lucky McCrary’s report, he covered essential updates on the district budget, ongoing construction projects, and progress on the lower elementary bond project.
