Freeman Turner Miller

Feb. 22, 1923 — March 16, 2024

Funeral services for Freeman Turner Miller, 101, of Republic, Mo., formerly of Stigler, were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw.

Burial followed at Sallisaw City Cemetery in Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

Mr. Miller was born on Feb. 22, 1923, in Stigler, to William P. (Bud) and Minnie Maude (Gregg) Miller. He died on March 16, 2024.

He married Eldee Ford on July 10, 1954, in Wagoner. She preceded him in death in July 2023.

He spent many years farming in Oklahoma and Arizona, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II at the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, where he received a Purple Heart after being wounded in action. He then worked as a salesman for GoodYear and Sears.

He was a member of Muskogee First Baptist Church, Muskogee Christian Businessmen’s Assoc., Muskogee CB Radio Club, McAlester Scottish Rite as a 32nd degree Mason in Oriental Lodge 430, Muskogee Bedouin Shriners, and VFW Post 474.

Survivors include his daughters, Kathy Jackson and husband David of Republic, Mo., and Mary Jewell of Frisco, Texas; several grandchildren; and other family members and friends.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Addie Casey, Zelda Cates, Ozie Cates and Ethel Brown; brother, Rollan Miller; and daughters, Martha Barnett and Betty Ann Dixon.
