The Cherokee Nation is thrilled to open online registration for Camp Cherokee 2024. This annual summer program offers an immersive experience for Cherokee Nation elementary and secondary school students to delve into science, technology, engineering, mathematics, traditional games, and Cherokee arts and culture.
Camp Cherokee provides a unique opportunity for young Cherokee citizens to understand how their ancestors interacted with the natural world while also exploring modern scientific and technological approaches to environmental stewardship. The innovative curriculum encourages critical thinking skills as students learn about sustainable land and resource management practices, both historical and contemporary.
“Camp Cherokee is an invaluable experience that allows our Cherokee youth to have an enriching academic summer filled with STEM learning and cultural activities,” said Deputy Chief Bryan Warner. “We place the highest importance on education and preserving our Cherokee identity. This camp nurtures young minds while keeping them connected to our precious lifeways.”
The schedule for the 2024 day camps, serving grades 1-6, includes:
• Stilwell: May 28-31
• Grove: June 4-7
• Vinita: June 11-14
• Vian: June 18-21
• Catoosa: June 25-28
• Tahlequah Heart O’ Hills: July 22-25
The residential camp for grades 7-12 will take place July 21-26 at Tahlequah Heart O’ Hills. Cherokee Nation welcomes citizens from across the country to attend, with arrangements available for airport transportation.
