Gore Lady Pirates finish fourth in Riverside Conference Tournament

The Gore Lady Pirates softball team finished fourth in last weekend’s Riverside Conference Tournament, which took place Friday at Stigler.

After the Lady Pirates lost their tournament opener 4-3 to Webbers Falls, they won two straight games, 12-0 over Arkoma and 8-7 over Keota, before losing 15-7 to Okay in the consolation semifinals.

To start last week, the Lady Pirates defeated Arkoma 7-4 on April 1 at Arkoma, but then lost 10-0 to Porum and 14-2 to Quinton on April 2 in Porum.

In the tournament loss to Webbers Falls, the Lady Warriors broke a 1-all tie with a threerun third inning for a 4-1 lead. The Lady Pirates (9-7) scored twice in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 4-3 but got no closer.

In defeat, Cheyanne Davidson was 2-for-3 with a double and a run batted in, Cadi Shoemake doubled with two RBIs and Emily Daily and River Shoemake each doubled and scored once for Gore.

In the tournament win over Arkoma, the Lady Pirates scored three runs in the first inning, four runs in the second inning and five runs in the third inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Kendra Huckbay was 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, Peyton Curran was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, Daily was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, Cadi Shoemake was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored and Sophie O’Connor tripled and scored once for Gore.

In the tournament victory over Keota, Huckbay’s one-out, RBI single scored Daily in the sixth inning to break a 7-all tie.

For the game, Daily was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple and four runs scored, Cadi Shoemake was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and four RBIs, Huckbay was 2-for-4 with the gamewinning RBI single, a triple, four RBIs and a run scored, Davidson was 2-for-4 with a double, Curran was 2-for-4 with a double and River Shoemake was 2-for-3 for Gore.

In the tournament loss to Okay, the Lady Mustangs scored five runs in the first inning for a 5-0 lead they would never relinquish, although the Lady Pirates cut the deficit to 5-3 after an inning and 8-4 after three innings but got no closer.

In defeat, Daily was 3-for-4 with a triple and a run scored, O’Connor was 2-for-2 with a double, a solo home run and two runs scored, River Shoemake was 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored and Huckbay doubled with three RBIs for Gore.

In the win over Arkoma on April 1, the Lady Pirates rallied from a 5-3 deficit by scoring once in the fourth inning, twice in the fifth inning and once in the sixth inning to take a 7-4 lead.

For the game, Huckbay was 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs batted in and two runs scored, Cadi Shoemake was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, an RBI and a run scored, Davidson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Keira Rowe was 2-for-3 with a run scored and River Shoemake tripled with two RBIs for Gore.

In the loss to Porum, the Lady Pirates only mustered three hits — a single apiece by River Shoemake, O’Connor and Davidson.

In the loss to Quinton, the Lady Savages took a 3-0 lead in the first inn ing, which became a 10-1 advantage by the second inning.

Quinton’s four-run fifth inning put the game into runrule status.
