Vian Lady Wolverines enjoy a perfect week of softball
By David Seeley Sports Editor,

The Vian Lady Wolverines enjoyed a perfect 4-0 week of softball last week.

The week started with a 15-2 win at home over Gore on April 8, which was followed up by a 9-1 win over Central at home Thursday and a pair of road wins at Roland — beating the host Lady Rangers 8-0 and defeating Muldrow 5-3.

In the win over Gore, the Lady Wolverines (11-5) jumped out to a quick lead, scoring five runs in the opening inning. A 10-run second inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, LaKaila Drew was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored, Halli Russell was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, Eden Girty was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI and Hanna Mattingly was 2-for-2 with two home runs, seven RBIs and two runs scored, Akeelah Truett doubled with two RBIs and two runs scored and Rayleigh Terrill doubled with two runs scored and an RBI for Vian. Terrill (11-5) got the win.

In the victory over Central, after the Lady Tigers took a 1-0 lead after an inning, the Lady Wolverines put away the game with a nine-run fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Kala Gibbins was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, Eastern Oklahoma State College signee Maisie Wells was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, Truett was 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs, Kaidence Roark was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored and Terrill doubled with an RBI and a run scored for Vian. Terrill got the win.

In Friday’s win over Roland, Terrill tossed a three-hitter as all the run support she needed was supplied with a four-run first inning. A four-run fourth inning put the game into runrule status.

For the contest, Gibbins was 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored, Mattingly was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Truett was 2-for-3 with a homer and five RBIs and Terrill was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Vian.

In Friday’s victory over Muldrow, a fourrun fourth inning put the Lady Wolverines ahead for good at 4-1.

For the game, Wells was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, while Roark was 2-for-3 for Vian. Terrill got the win.

After playing at home Monday against Stilwell and playing in a road three-way with Eufaula at Fort Gibson, the Lady Wolverines will begin postseason play in the Class 4A District Tournament, which will begin today at Panama. If the Lady Wolverines win the district tournament today, they will be in next week’s Class 4A Regional Tournament, whose site and times will be determined next week.
