Gore softball season goes to a conclusion

The 2024 slow-pitch softball season came to a conclusion on Wednesday for the Gore Lady Pirates, who finished the season at 10-13.

The Lady Pirates went 1-2 in Wednesday’s Class 3A District Tournament at Porum, beating Talihina 6-3 but losing 8-0 to Wright City and 12-2 to Porum.

The week started with a 13-12, eight-inning walk-off loss to the Okay Mustangs on April 15, then a 12-1 road loss to Roland on April 16.

In the win over Talihina, the Lady Pirates, who trailed 1-0 after an inning, scored once in the third inning and three runs in the fourth inning to take the lead for good at 4-1. The Lady Golden Tigers scored once in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 4-2, but they got no closer.

For the game, Emily Daily was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Kendra Huckbay was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, River Shoemake was 3-for-5 with a run batted in and a run scored, Keira Rowe was 2-for-4 and Sophie O’Connor and Peyton Curran each doubled for Gore.

In the loss to Lady Lumberjax, Wright City pitcher Braileigh Threadgill tossed a fourhitter, with Daily, Curran, Rowe and Adrian Summerlin each singling for Gore.

In the season-ending loss to the Lady Panthers, after the Lady Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Porum scored five runs in the first inning and six runs in the second inning for an 11-1 lead after two innings. Gore cut the deficit to 11-2 in the third inning, but the Lady Panthers scored once in the third inning to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Daily was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Huckbay was 2-for-2 for Gore.

In the loss to Okay, the Lady Mustangs walked off the game in the bottom of the eighth inning after the Lady Pirates tied the game at 12-all with a two-run seventh inning.

In defeat, Daily was 4-for-5 with a triple and three runs scored, Huckbay was 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, four runs batted in and three runs scored, Peyton Curran was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored, Cheyenne Davidson was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Shoemake was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Paige Curran doubled with two runs scored and an RBI.

In the loss to Roland, after falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Lady Rangers scored three runs in the first inning, eight runs in the second inning and once in the third inning to put the game into runrule status.

In defeat, Paige Curran doubled, Shoemake singled and scored Gore’s lone run and Huckbay Davidson and O’Connor each singled for the Lady Pirates. Huckbay took the loss.
