In Vian Board of Education meeting
Vian Public Schools welcomed a new addition to its board during their regular meeting on April 10. Bill Sanford took the oath of office, officially stepping into his role as a school board member after winning the recent school board election.
The board then voted to reorganize the Vian School Board’s leadership positions, appointing James Thornton as president, Jeff Cotner as vice president, Joe Paul Simon as clerk, and John Ford as member.
Superintendent John Brockman, during his report, included a special meeting announcement scheduled for May 15 at noon, and updates on the new high school.
Additionally, discussions were held regarding Armstrong Park in collaboration with the Vian Community Foundation and the town of Vian. While no concrete actions were taken, the board engaged in productive dialogue while hearing input from representatives of the foundation and town officials.
Several crucial decisions were made concerning the curriculum and staffing for the upcoming school year. The board approved agreements with Tom Cameron & Associates, along with Indian Capital Technology Center providing mathematics and science courses for graduation credit. Leah Agent was also named as an adjunct instructor for Anatomy and Physiology.
Additionally, the board approved membership with the Organization of Rural Oklahoma Schools for the 2024-25 school year, highlighting their dedication to networking and collaboration within the educational community.
The meeting concluded with an executive session to discuss coaching assignments for the upcoming school year, as well as staffing adjustments. Upon reconvening, the board voted to approve coaching assignments and to hire Stacy Randle as the new middle school math teacher and Jodi Vickers as the high school secretary, ensuring a smooth transition for the 2024–25 academic year.
