The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma has announced that Kelly D. Girty Jr., 30, of Gore, has entered a guilty plea to a one count violation of felon in possession of a firearm.
The indictment alleged that on Jan. 7, 2024, Girty, having been convicted of a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year, and knowing of that conviction, possessed a .22 caliber, bolt action rifle which had been shipped and transported in interstate commerce.
The charges arose from an investigation by the Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The Honorable Jason A. Robertson accepted the plea and ordered the completion of a pre-sentence investigation report.
Girty will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing.
