His Ways are Everlasting

His Ways are Everlasting
By Pastor Michael Martin Vian Baptist Church,

Habakkuk 3:6 “He stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways are everlasting.”

“Man’s ways are variable, but God’s ways are everlasting. There are many reasons for this most comforting truth: among them are the following-the Lord’s ways are the result of wise deliberation; he ordereth all things according to the counsel of his own will. Human action is frequently the hasty result of passion, or fear, and is followed by regret and alteration; but nothing can take the Almighty by surprise, or happen otherwise than he has foreseen. His ways are the outgrowth of an immutable character, and in them the fixed and settled attributes of God are clearly to be seen.” Charles Spurgeon In Genesis Chapter One we see the creation of the heavens and the earth. In God’s foresight, He included everything man would ever need within the crust of the earth. There are still several elements that we recognize yet do not use. All the way back in Genesis Chapter Two, gold was found, used, and treasured. God Himself gave instruction of its use in building the Original Tabernacle to worship Him.

All the precious stones were and are in place. Many were called out as being used in the garb of the Priests that ministered before God. Yet it was all conceived and placed in the earth for such a time as it was wanted or needed.

In Genesis 4 we see Tubalcain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron. Who would have thought the red rocks could produce iron? Who would have thought to combine copper and zinc to form brass? Weren’t they just rocks? We still use all the elements that are found in the earth.

Habakkuk knew that God had worked in the past, and therefore he could trust Him to work in the present and future. The mountains trembled before the Lord — and so would the Chaldeans. “Jehovah is a man of war.” Israel was His people.

When “He stood and measured the earth,” it was finished in design and mass. It never needed another thing added to it. God placed the mountains and hills where He wanted them. He actually “drove” the nations where he wanted them and used His mountains and perpetual hills to separate them into the lands where He wanted them.

Some of this may be lost on the casual reader of scripture, but God knew our future because He is Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. The world will only stand as long as God purposed it to stand. In the Book of Revelation we see a new heaven and a new earth for God was finished with the first ones. Revelation 21:1 “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.”

What happened to the old earth and the old heavens? Revelation 20:11 “And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.”

God designed them. God created them for His purpose. When His purpose was fulfilled, they were no longer needed and God very probably sent them back into the cosmic dust from which they were assembled.

The Bible clearly tell us of their creation. Hebrews 11:3 “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”

Man has, over the years, torn apart God’s creations and cataloged every part of it whither it be plant, animal, human or things of the earth such as minerals. Yet in all their research they cannot find the binding force that holds it all together. The Bible tells us plainly in Colossiansl:15-17 “Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”

The Earth and the Heavens were created specifically for the purpose of giving God’s created beings, mankind, a place to live, thrive, and worship. He gave man a free will to choose what to become and how he wanted to live. Yet, God made wonderful promises for those that would worship Him and obey His commands.

Do you understand that God who created us knows what is best for us? All of His ordainances, judgements and laws were to give man the best possible life on the earth He had created for him? Man, is solely responsible for the truth he hears. Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Life has a finite number of days for each human born. We do not know how long each of us have. Our life lasts only as long as God decrees. That is why God wants us to “seek Him early”. Proverbs 8:17 “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.” Seek Him early; seek Him soon for even the earth will pass when God is finished with it.
