The Gore High School basketball teams opened their seasons against Riverside Conference foe McCurtain on Friday night at Gore Event Center.
The Pirates tamed the Bulldogs with a 66-37 rout, but the Lady Bulldogs rallied to down the Lady Pirates 35-31 in overtime.
In the boys’ game, the Pirates (1-0 overall, 1-0 in conference play) put away the game early, jumping out to a 17-4 lead after a quarter and were never headed.
For the game, Tate Brooksher led Gore with 20 points, followed by Cain Cooper and Eli Munson with 12 points each, Nash Thouvenel with nine points, Duane Hunt with seven points and Keeton Rowe and Benson Hunt with three points apiece.
In the girls’ game, Mc-Curtain’s Kaylee Culwell hit a 3-point basket with two seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 31-all to force overtime. She then scored all four points of the OT to cap the come-from-behind victory.
In defeat, Kennedy Williams led the Lady Pirates (0-1, 0-1) with 12 points, followed by Rayleigh Moore with eight points and Ricki Huckbay, Emily Daily and Sophie O’Connor with three points apiece.
