OKMULGEE — The Gore high school and junior high wrestlers got their season underway last week, and capped it off with a strong finish to the week at last weekend’s Okmulgee Bulldog Classic.
The Pirates high school squad saw four of its six wrestlers place. Bladin McCartney and Kaydin McCartney were third, Cole Brooksher was fifth and Devon Mannon was a consolation champion.
Marcus Scott and Antonio Parker each got a win out of three matches competed during the two-day tournament.
In the JH division, Jaydan Gates was the 170-pound champion, while Treydan Daugherty was a consolation champion and Wyatt Chitty and Beau Moore each were sixth-place finishers.
Jace Gates got a win, while Stryker Sandy and Jaxton McGowin also competed.
On Thursday, the Pirates high school team opened its season with a 69-12 loss to the host Van Buren (Ark.) Pointers.
The Pirates (0-1 in duals this season) got two pinfall wins, one by Parker at 190 pounds and the other coming from Kaydin McCartney at heavyweight.
The Pirates are slated to return to action at 5 p.m. Thursday against local rival Vian at Vian’s B.J. Traw Gymnasium.
