Central basketball teams get homecoming wins over Gore, sweep Warner
By David Seeley Sports Editor,

It was a good weekend of hoops for the Central basketball teams last weekend.

The Central teams celebrated homecoming Saturday afternoon with a sweep of the Gore squads at the Central Gym as the Tigers edged the Pirates 57-54 before the Lady Tigers beat the Lady Pirates 60-40.

On Friday night, the Central teams got a pair of wins over the visiting Warner squads as the Lady Tigers clipped the wings of the Lady Eagles 39-38, then the Tigers got past the Eagles 6463 in overtime.

In the boys’ homecoming win over Gore, the Tigers (8-4) rallied from a 44-42 thirdquarter deficit with a 1510 final period to hold off the Pirates.

For the game, Central put a trio of players into double figures, led by homecoming king Aidan Sainer’s 14 points, followed by Paitton Merrill’s 12 points and Braxin Goodson’s 10 points. Hardy Buzzard scored eight points, followed by Noah Buzzard with seven points and Josh Brunk with six points.

In the girls’ homecoming victory over Gore, the Lady Tigers (93) broke a 10-all tie early in the second quarter by ending the first half on an 18-4 run to take a 28-14 halftime lead and were never headed.

For the game, Central had three players reach double figures, led by Cambree Bair’s 18 points, followed by homecoming queen Hadlie Woods with 14 points and Ayrland Jiles with 10 points. Haley Cheek scored seven points, followed by Paris Campbell with five points and Alexxus Bolin, Ryleigh Pierce and Charlie Petree with two points apiece.

In the girls’ win over Warner, the Lady Tigers led 11-7 after a quarter, 25-18 at the half and 3624 after three periods. The Lady Eagles made things interesting as they outscored the Lady Tigers 14-3 in the fourth quarter, but the Warner rally just fell short.

For the game, Cheek led Central with a gamehigh 15 points, followed by Woods with eight points, Bair with seven points, Campbell and Jiles with four points each and Cheyenne Busch with a free throw. In the boys’ victory over Warner, after the Eagles outscored the Tigers 16-12 to tie the game at 57-all to force overtime, the Tigers nipped the Eagles 7-6 in the extra session to get the win.

For the game, Brunk led Central with 21 points, followed by Sainer with 19 points, Hardy Buzzard with 10 points, Noah Buzzard with eight points, Goodson with four points and Merrill with two points.
