Gore Pirates go 2-1 Last Week, Lady Pirates Get Home Win over Kinta
By David Seeley Sports Editor

The Gore Pirates basketball team went 2-1 last week, while the Lady Pirates were 1-2.

The Pirates and Lady Pirates split Thursday’s road games at Quinton, the place where the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) sent them and Davenport for their Class A District Tournament on Feb. 1415, after their Tuesday night Riverside Conference road games against Gans on Jan 28 at Bryant “Big Country” Reeves Fieldhouse were postponed until 6 and 7:30 p.m. next Tuesday due to illness issues.

Both teams swept home games from Kinta on Friday night at Gore Event Center, but lost a pair of road games Saturday evening to the host and ranked Panama squads at Razorback Event Center.

On Thursday night in Quinton, the Pirates defeated the Savages 4235, but the Lady Pirates lost 73-29 to the Lady Savages.

In Friday night’s homecoming games against Kinta at home, the Lady Pirates defeated the Lady Eagles 55-37 after the Pirates clipped the Eagles 62-48.

On Saturday night in Panama, the Pirates’ fourth-quarter rally came up short in a 73-60 loss to Class 2A’s 12thranked Razorbacks after Class 2A 15th-ranked Lady ’Backs downed the Lady Pirates 48-29.

In the boys’ win over Quinton, the Pirates (12-6) rallied from an 11-8 first-quarter deficit by outscoring the Savages 34-24 over the final three periods to get the come-from-behind win.

For the game, Gore put a trio of players into double figures, led by Cain Cooper and Nash Thouvenel with 12 points each and Duane Hunt with 11 points. Keeton Rowe had four points, followed by Eli Munson with two points and Tate Brooksher with a free throw.

In the girls’ loss to Quinton, the Lady Savages jumped out to a 20-7 lead after a quarter, which became a 40-16 halftime advantage and a 49-25 lead going into the final period.

In defeat, Rayleigh Moore, River Shoemake and Emily Daily led the Lady Pirates (5-11) with six points each, followed by Kennedy Williams with five points, Ricki Huckbay with four points and CoCo Carter with two points.

In the boys’ homecoming victory over Kinta, the Pirates led 1711 after a period and 2824 at halftime but used a 21-2 third quarter to put away the game as Gore took a 49-26 lead into the fourth quarter. The Eagles tried to make a game of it, outscoring the Pirates 22-13 in the final period but coming up short.

For the contest, Brooksher led all scorers with a game-high 20 points, followed by Cooper with 16 points, Hunt with eight points, Rowe with six points, Cruz Ward with four points, Munson and Thouvenel with three points each and Ayden Cox with two points.

In the girls’ homecoming win over Kinta, the Lady Pirates broke a 9-all tie after a quarter with an 11-4 second period to take a 20-13 halftime lead. The Lady Pirates outscored the Lady Eagles 35-24 in the second half to preserve the victory.

For the game, Williams scored 16 points and Huckbay added 10 points to lead Gore, followed by Daily with nine points, Moore with seven points, Shoemake with six points, Carter with three points and Sophie O’Connor and Hallie Brewer with two points apiece.

In the boys’ loss to Panama, the Razorbacks led 20-5 after a quarter and 42-14 at halftime, but the Pirates tried to mount a second-half comeback as they outscored the Hogs 23-19 in the third quarter and 23-12 in the final period to make the game interesting.

In defeat, Cooper scored a game-high 35 points, including hitting seven 3-point baskets, to lead Gore, followed by Brooksher with seven points, Hunt with six points, Munson with five points, Rowe with three points and Cox and Ward with two points apiece.

In the girls’ loss to Panama, the Lady Razorbacks clawed their way to an 11-2 lead after a period, which became a 27-10 halftime advantage and a 39-16 lead going into the fourth quarter.

In defeat, Williams led Gore with 11 points, followed by Shoemake with seven points, Daily with five points and Moore and Huckbay with three points apiece.
