Webbers Falls girls fall to Red Oak in district finals; season ends for Warriors
By David Seeley Sports Editor,

The Webbers Falls Lady Warriors are still playing basketball, but are facing elimination the rest of the way.

The Lady Warriors lost 80-24 to the host Red Oak Lady Eagles in the title game of the Class A District Tournament on Saturday night at Red Oak High School’s C.C. Gillespie Fieldhouse after eliminating the Cameron Lady Yellowjackets 5548 on Friday night.

The season ended for the Webbers Falls Warriors with a 61-54 loss to the Cameron Yellowjackets in Friday night’s district-tournament opener in Red Oak.

Both Webbers Falls teams ended the regular season with a road sweep over the Watts squads on Feb. 10, with the Lady Warriors winning 59-17 and the Warriors prevailing 56-53.

The Lady Warriors (13-10) will meet Afton in the Class A Regional Tournament consolation quarterfinals at 1 p.m. Thursday in Cameron, with the winner meeting the Ripley-Porter Consolidated loser in the consolation semifinals at 1 p.m. Friday in Porter. Friday’s winner will play for the consolation championship and a trip to next week’s area tournament in Cleveland, Okla., at 1 p.m. Saturday.

In the girls’ district title game, the Lady Eagles flew out to a 27-6 lead after a period and were never headed.

In defeat, Bridgette Baer scored 10 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Madison Smith with six points and Kailey Mannon, Cheyanne Herrier, Audri Spears and Bailey Ward with two points apiece.

In the girls’ win over Cameron in the district opener, the Lady Warriors trailed 37-29 after three quarters but outscored the Lady ’Jackets 26-11 in the final period to get the come-frombehind win — and assure themselves another week of playoff basketball.

For the game, Webbers Falls put a trio of players into double figures, led by Baer’s gamehigh 18 points, followed by Herrier’s 15 points and Mannon’s 12 points. Spears and Ward scored four points each, while Abbie Patterson scored two points.

In the boys’ seasonending loss to Cameron in the district opener, the ’Jackets rallied from a 31-26 halftime deficit by outscoring the Warriors 35-23 in the second half to get the comeback victory.

In defeat, Chevy Cole led the Warriors (8-14) with 20 points, followed by Luke Pierce with 15 points, Thadan Yandell with nine points, Eli Hefflin with seven points and Gunner Shelby with three points.

In the girls’ win over Watts, the Lady Warriors jumped out to a 10-2 lead after a quarter, which became a 34-3 halftime advantage and a 47-12 lead going into the final period.

For the game, Herrier led Webbers Falls with a game-high 12 points, followed by Baer and Paizley Turley with eight points each, Ward, Smith, Spears and River Harrison each with six points, Mannon with three points and Hannah Kay Mason and Haley Shanks with two points apiece.

In the boys’ victory over Watts, the Warriors rallied from a 3938 third-quarter deficit by outscoring the Engineers 17-14 in the final period for the comefrom- behind victory. For the game, Webbers Falls put four players into double figures, led by Shelby’s 16 points, followed by Cole’s 12 points and 11 points apiece from Yandell and Pierce. Hefflin scored four points, while Brutus Robinson added two points.
