Man who shot police officer captured
By AMIE CATO-REMER Editor

A man wanted for shooting a Webbers Falls Police officer on Sunday reportedly shot himself in a Walmart parking lot in New Mexico on Monday morning as authorities there tried to take him into custody.

Billy W. Williams, 46, described as armed and extremely dangerous, shot a female Webbers Falls Police officer Sunday evening after she stopped him for speeding. According to reports, the officer was shot in the face and treated at a nearby hospital. Her injuries were not life-threatening and she’s been released from the hospital.

Following the shooting, it was alleged that Williams may have been staying at a residence in Porum, but that lead later proved to be false.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) issued a blue alert for Williams on Sunday night on behalf of the Webbers Falls Police Department in Muskogee County, giving a description of the suspect and what he was driving.

He was first said to have been driving a 2001 GMC Yukon that was later found abandoned by OHP. Williams then changed vehicles and was reported to be driving a white Nissan Altima.

Williams traveled all the way to Grants, N.M. where authorities there found him parked in the Walmart parking lot. As officers tried to talk to him, they reportedly heard a gunshot and found that Williams had allegedly shot himself in the stomach.

He was transported to an Albuquerque hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

As of press time, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is continuing to investigate the case.
