Gore Lady Pirates go 2-4 last week

The Gore Lady Pirates slow-pitch softball team won two of their six games played last week.

The Lady Pirates began the week with a 10-1 home loss to Okay on March 24, then split a pair of road games in Cameron — beating the host Lady Yellowjackets 16-2 in five innings but losing 10-2 in four innings to the Wister Lady Wildcats.

In Thursday’s Webbers Falls Softball Festival at Eual Carter Sports Complex, the Lady Pirates defeated the Vian Lady Wolverines 7-5 but lost 1-0 to the host Lady Warriors and 8-0 to the Heavener Lady Wolves.

In the loss to Okay, the Lady Mustangs scored three runs in the opening inning, then added two runs in the third inning and a run in the fourth inning for a 6-0 lead. After the Lady Pirates (3-7) scored their lone run in the fourth inning, Okay put away the game with a four-run fifth inning.

In defeat, Emily Daily was 2-for-3, while Kennedy Williams and Peyton Curran each singled for Gore. Mylee Bruce (3-7) took the loss.

In the win over Cameron, the Lady Pirates scored single runs in each of the first two innings for a 2-0 lead. After the Lady Yellowjackets cut the deficit to 2-1 after two innings, the Lady Pirates scored twice in the third inning and once in the fourth inning for a 5-1 advantage. After Cameron cut the Gore lead to 5-2 after four innings, the Lady Pirates put away the game with an 11run fifth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Daily was 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored, Ricki Huckbay was 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs batted in and two runs scored, River Shoemake was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored, Sophie O’Connor was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Williams was 2-for-3 with her first home run of the season, two RBIs and two runs scored, Bruce was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Keira Rowe was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored and Maddison Douglass doubled with two RBIs and a run scored for Gore.

Bruce got the win, getting three strikeouts.

In the loss to Wister, after the Lady Pirates cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second inning, the Lady Wildcats (8-4) scored once in the second inning and three runs in the third inning for a 6-1 lead. After Gore cut the Wister advantage to 6-2 in the fourth inning, the Lady ’Cats put the game into run-rule status with a four-run fourth inning.

In defeat, Curran doubled and scored once, Williams singled and scored once and Bruce and Rowe each singled for Gore. Bruce took the loss.

In the loss to Webbers Falls, Webbers Falls player Kendra Kimble hit a two-out, RBI single to score Lextyn Chappell with the game’s only run in the fifth inning.

In defeat, Huckbay and Hallie Brewer were each 2-for-3 for Gore.

Bruce took the loss, despite recording two strikeouts in seven innings.

In the win over Vian, the Lady Pirates scored twice in the first inning and five runs in the third inning for a 7-0 lead. The Lady Wolverines scored five runs in the fourth inning but got no closer.

For the game, Huckbay was 3-for-4 with a double, Brewer was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored and Bruce was 2-for-4 for Gore.

Bruce got the win, getting four strikeouts.

In the loss to Heavener, the Lady Pirates were three-hit by Heavener pitcher Britlee Reed.

The Lady Wolves scored four runs in each of the first two innings to put the game into run-rule status.

Daily, Brewer and Bruce all singled for Gore. Bruce suffered loss.
