Vian Wolverines baseball team goes 4-0 last week; pitcher no-hits FG
By David Seeley Sports Editor

The Vian Wolverines baseball team could not have done much better than it did last week, winning all four games played.

The Wolverines opened the week with a walk-off 6-4 home win over the Warner Eagles, then got an 8-6 home win over the Haskell Haymakers.

The Wolverines ended the week with backto- back home victories, winning 9-1 over the Eufaula Ironheads on Thursday and getting a 12-1 road rout of the Fort Gibson Tigers on Friday.

In the win over Warner, Riley Ellis hit a oneout, two-run, walk-off home run in the seventh inning to break a 4-all tie and give the Wolverines (9-5) the victory.

For the game, Ellis was 2-for-4 with a double, his first homer of the season and scored twice, Kaden Fulbright was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored and Jeremiah Marshall was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run batted in for the Wolverines (12-5).

Ellis (1-0) got the win in relief, going the final three innings with seven strikeouts. Michael Polecat started and went the first four innings with five Ks.

In the victory over Haskell, the Wolverines never trailed, scoring four runs in the first inning and once in the third inning for a 5-0 lead.

After the Haymakers cut their deficit to 5-2 in the fourth inning, the Wolverines scored three runs in their half of the frame to up their advantage to 8-2 after four innings. The Haymakers made things interesting with a four-run sixth inning but got no closer.

Fulbright (2-2) got the win, going the first five innings with two strikeouts. Chris Cheater got his first save of the season as he went the final two innings with a strikeout.

In the road win over Eufaula, Terrill (3-0) threw a five-hitter with two strikeouts.

The Wolverines scored three runs in the first inning for a 3-0 lead. After the Ironheads cut their deficit to 3-1 after an inning, the Wolverines put away the game with a six-run fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Crake Collins was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, Polecat was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Terrill was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Ellis doubled with two RBIs and a run scored for Vian.

In the road victory over Fort Gibson, it was all Wolverines, who led 1-0 after an inning, 3-0 after two innings and 5-0 after four innings. A seven-run fifth inning put the game into runrule status.

For the contest, Polecat was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored, Ellis was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, Terrill was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, Marshall was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored and Fulbright doubled with an RBI for Vian.
