Gore Pirates win Riverside Conference Tournament; pitcher no-hits Gans

The Gore Pirates won the Riverside Conference Baseball Tournament on their home field Friday afternoon, knocking off the Porum Panthers 7-6.

The Pirates opened the tournament with a 12-0 rout of Gans and a 14-4 rout of Keota on Thursday in Gore.

Last week started rough for the Pirates, who lost 14-0 in five innings to Dewar on April 7, but they routed the McCurtain Bulldogs 13-2 in four innings on April 8.

In the conference title game, Kyler Mc-Gee’s one-out, RBI single walked it off for the Pirates (13-6) in the seventh inning.

For the game, James Brasuell was 2-for-3 with his first home run of the season and four runs scored, Gage Dame was 2-for-3 with a doubled a run batted in, Tate Brooksher was 2-for-4 and McGee was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Gore.

Brasuell (4-2) got the win in relief, going the final five innings with seven strikeouts. Brooksher got the start and went the first two innings with four Ks.

In the tournament semifinal win over Keota, after falling behind the Lions 4-0 in the first inning, the Pirates erupted for seven runs in the first inning, followed by a pair of two-run innings in the second and third innings for an 11-4 lead. A three-run fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Dame and Keeton Rowe each singled for the Pirates.

Brasuell got the win in relief as he threw the most innings, two, with five strikeouts. McKennon McElhaney got the start and went the first inning with a strikeout. Brooksher closed things out by striking out the side in the fourth inning.

In the tournamentopening win over Gans, pitcher Eli Munson (1-0) got the win as he no-hit the Grizzlies with six Ks in three innings.

A nine-run first inning was all the Pirates needed to tame the Grizzlies.

For the game, Brasuell was 3-for-3 with two triples, an Brooksher was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored, Rowe doubled with an RBI and three runs scored and Duane Hunt homered for the first time this season, which was a first-inning grand-slam home run to highlight the nine-run first inning.

In the win over Mc-Curtain, the Pirates, who led 4-0 after three innings, put away the game with a nine-run fourth inning for a 13-0 lead to put the game into runrule status.

For the game, Brasuell was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, four runs batted in and two runs scored, Dame was 2-for-3 with a double, his first home run of the season and two RBIs, Kason Short was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Colten Frye doubled and scored twice for Gore.

Dame (2-0) got the win, going the first two innings with five strikeouts. Keiden Denton went the next 1.2 innings with a strikeout, then Frye came in and got the last out. The trio combined for a two-hitter.

In the loss to Dewar, the Pirates fell behind 2-0 after an inning, and the Dragons added a pair of three-run innings in the second and third inning to make it 8-0. A six-run fourth inning put the game into runrule status.

In defeat, Denton, Rowe and Brooksher each singled for Gore’s three hits.

Brooksher (3-2) suffered the loss, going the first three innings with four strikeouts. McElhaney went the final inning with a strikeout. Of Dewar’s 14 runs, six were unearned due to seven Gore errors.
