Now is the Day
By Pastor Michael Martin Vian Baptist Church

2Corinthians 6:2 “(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)” Ah, yes, today could be the day of salvation for someone, if they pause from their busy day and listen to what the word God tells them. But we are busy (many times about nothing) just too busy to sit and think about our eternal life and how the Word of  God tells us how to get there.

A procrastinator is someone who repeatedly and unnecessarily postpones decisions or actions. For example, if a person repeatedly delays working on assignments until right before their deadline for no reason, even though they know that it would be better for them to start earlier, that person is a procrastinator.

There is a Procrastinator’s Club meant for people who never quite get around to doing much of anything. The Procrastinators’ Club of America is based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and describes its purpose as promoting “the philosophy of relaxation through indolence”.

Procrastinators generally suffer from various issues due to their procrastination, like missed opportunities and increased stress. They also usually suffer from intention-action gaps, since they’re unable to bring themselves to do things on time despite intending and wanting to do so, and despite being well aware of the issues that their procrastination causes. Accordingly, many procrastinators are stuck in chronic cycles of procrastination, which they keep trying to escape.

I was going to join, but I never quite got around to it. I heard that they scheduled meetings yet normally the club members never get around to coming to them.

So we see the term procrastinator fit the definition of someone who just never quite gets around to reading the Word of God, or going to church (even though they know deep down inside that they need to attend).

We all make daily decisions about what our day will be like. Many make good plans, but never quite get them done. My sister-in-law from Tahlequah always tell me, ‘Michael, Get er done!’ I laugh each time she says it, but although the saying is funny to hear, it is truth well spoken.

Now the word of God is special to all humanity (even if humanity denies it). Many people think it is too complex to understand, but that is what the preaching of the Word of God, by a man called to be a preacher is for. He takes simple scripture and emphasizes that need to be learned. Yes, I said simple instead of complex for the Bible is a simple set of instructions in how to please God, who created all things for you.

In the five days of creation found in Genesis, God prepared the earth for the habitation of man. The earth renews itself by new growth, the circuits of wind, the life cycle of plants, etc. God prepared for His crowning accomplishment.. .man. Man was born on the sixth day of creation because he could not have survived on the earth in the first five days. Creation had to be complete for man to live and prosper.

The Bible tells us of heaven and hell. Many scoff because they heard someone else scoff and not because they researched it for themselves. Many have listened to the lies concerning what scripture contains within its pages. It all started in the Garden of Eden when the serpent said to Eve, “yeah hath God said?” The lies about what God said caused the fall of mankind into sin. Sin causes mankind to “fail at the grace of God”. Hebrews 12:15 “Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;” This scripture in Hebrews describes the method the devil uses to fool mankind, It is simple word of mouth. So-in-so tells so-in-so and so-in-so tells other so-in-so until the world has been completely covered with the lies.

The only way to find the truth is to read the Word of God for yourself. Start with the first six chapters of Genesis, then begin reading in the Book of John. The first six chapters of Genesis tells of man birth and the failure of man to please the God who created him. The Book of John tells of the love of God to send Jesus Christ to reestablish a relationship with man. Man broke that relationship not God.

Scripture assures us that God love all men (mankind including womankind) and hates sin. In Romans 3:23 and Romans 6:23 it tells us that all have sinned and the wages of that sin is death. In Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us simply what needs to happen in our lives.

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Now one last question for you, dear reader. Are you going to put off the Bible, the Church, and Salvation until it is too late? Do not procrastinate on this. It is too important!
