Vian softball team suffers three losses last week
By David Seeley Sports Editor

Park.

It was a rough week on the slow-pitch softball diamonds for the Vian Lady Wolverines last week as they lost all three games, including two at Armstrong Park — 9-5 to Central on April 7 and 13-6 to Muldrow on April 8.

The week ended with a 15-0, three-inning road loss to the Fort Gibson Lady Tigers on Friday.

The Lady Wolverines did not play Thursday at Gore due to the Lady Pirates playing in the Riverside Conference Tournament the following day in Stigler.

In the loss to Central, the Lady Tigers scored once in the first inning and seven runs in the second inning for an 8-0 lead. The Lady Wolverines (4-9) cut the deficit to 8-4 after three innings, but got no closer.

In defeat, Brooklyn Cox was 3-for-4 with a run scored, Kala Gibbins was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, Rayleigh Terrill was 2-for-4 with her second home run of the season — a tworun shot in the third inning — and Tressa Sandlin doubled for Vian.

Terrill (4-9) took the loss, despite getting two strikeouts in seven innings.

In the loss to Muldrow, the Lady Bulldogs scored three runs in the first inning, twice in the second inning and once in the third inning for a 6-0 lead. The Lady Wolverines cut their deficit to 6-2 with a two-run third inning but got no closer.

In defeat, Sandlin was 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored, Gibbins was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Eden Girty was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Aubree Craighead doubled with two RBIs and a run scored, Kaidence Roark doubled and Terrill hit her third homer of the season — a two-run shot in the sixth inning for Vian. Terrill suffered the loss.

In the loss to Fort Gibson, the Lady Tigers scored 13 runs in the opening inning and never looked back. A two-run second inning put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Cox’s single was the only hit for Vian. Terrill took the loss.

The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) announced Vian’s Class 4A District Tournament assignment for April 24-26. The Lady Wolverines and Arkoma were sent to Pocola.
