Webbers Falls Warriors beat Keota, but lose twice to Union City in regional to see season close
By David Seeley Sports Editor

STONEWALL — The 2025 baseball season ended for the Webbers Falls Warriors at the Class A-II Regional Tournament, which took place Thursday and Saturday.

The good news was the Warriors got a regional victory, doubling up the Keota Lions 8-4 in Thursday night’s elimination game.

However, the notso- good news was the Union City Tigers got a pair of run-rule wins over the Warriors by scores of 10-0 in four innings on Thursday and 12-1 in four innings on Saturday afternoon, with the latter victory by Union City ending the season for the Warriors.

In the win over Keota, the Warriors (13-16-1), who rallied from a 4-3 deficit, tied the game at 4-all in the fifth inning, then won the game with a four-run sixth inning.

For the contest, Brutus Robinson was 2-for-4 with a run batted in and a run scored, Gunner Shelby was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI and Trysten Wilbourn was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI for Webbers Falls.

Robinson (4-4) got the win, getting five strikeouts in 6.2 innings. Luke Pierce got the final out.

In Thursday’s loss to Union City, the Tigers got a two-hitter from Andrew Dennis, who fanned seven Warriors in four innings.

The Tigers got all the run support Dennis needed with a pair of three-run innings in the first and second innings for a 6-0 lead. A pair of two-run innings in the next two innings put the game into run-rule status.

Robinson and Wilbourn each singled for the only hits for Webbers Falls.

Robinson suffered the loss, being knocked out of the game with only one out in the first inning, which he got on a strikeout. Shelby went the next three innings with two strikeouts, then Elliott Kunkel got the final out.

In the season-ending loss to Union City, the Tigers broke a 1-all tie with a six-run second inning and a five-run third inning for a 12-1 lead to put the game into run-rule status.

Robinson singled and scored the lone run for Webbers Falls.

Pierce (2-2) took the loss, going the first two innings. Ryan Cowan pitched the third in- ning.
